We are pleased to announce we have official releases of the 64-bit BL7 beta (Ubuntu 22.04 base). Beta because I found a few issues I would like fixed before I release an rc release. There are 3 ISOs and you can download them at SourceForge. The three releases and the installed kernels are: - Standard: 5.15.0-71-generic
- HWE: 5.19.0-41
- s76: 6.2.6
You can also read the changelog at www.bodhilinux.com/release/7-0-0/The s76 release is using System76's 6.2.6 kernel. I plan on creating a low-memory ISO before the final release. Please report any issues or comments here. NOTE: Escuelas Linux has reported to me that they use the 6.2 kernel on their latest release and "with kernel 6.2, the deletion of a big number of files fails when using an NTFS drive. It does not fail when using, say, EXT4 drives." This is using thunar or CLI for deletion. Also "I can confirm it is an issue with kernel 6.2 and not related with System76 patches. I downloaded the exact same 6.2.6 kernel version from TuxInvader PPA, and the issue is still there." I have not verified this on Bodhi but users of NTFS should be aware of this issue. Also be aware I can do nothing about kernel issues. EDIT: The OS_prober feature is disabled by default in GRUB 2.06, meaning other operating system during or after installation will not be detected. This is an upstream change for security reasons. See this article to restore OS_probe if you need it.

Great news! Thanks for the work.

Excellent! Thanks much! I just downloaded the s76 version to give it a try, and it won't get past the intro menu in Virtualbox 6.1, whether I select live or install I get something like the attached screenshot. Could be a virtualbox issue with that kernel, I guess I should put it on a usb drive and try booting it for real to test... but in any case I'm downloading hwe version now to give a try in virtualbox.
edit to avoid cluttering thread with new posts: I'm getting HORRIBLE download rate from sourceforge. Even after an hour it was estimating another 8, so I started over hoping for better mirror... at first it was a little better but now crazy slow again.
And the torrent doesn't seem to connect to anyone yet for me...

Yes, sorry about that. I don't have a server running a torrent client, so as long as I'm the only seeder, it won't work while I'm offline.
Anyway, installed it on my old T420 and I ran into two problems/ annoyances:
1. Installation seems to take forever when you check the "Install additional packages for Wi-Fi..." option. However, if you quit the process and start the installer again, installation will just work. 2. At least with my configuration, no grub entry was generated. So I couldn't boot the system. However, I still have a working install of Mint on the primary drive and I could do a "sudo update-grub" there and now Bodhi 7 has a grub entry. Not sure how this would turn out on a machine with only one drive.
I might add, the new default theme is beautiful and all seems to work well so far.
UPDATE: The torrent still does not work - for whatever reason. Trying a new one.

Not sure how this would turn out on a machine with only one drive. The grub issue noted is a security feature and by design. It is easy for me to forgot that not everyone follows FOSS/Linux/Ubuntu news as much as I do. But it was big news when it happened. GRUB in Ubuntu 22.04 (and many other distros) does not detect any other operating system during or after installation. I decided to leave this as Ubuntu and GRUB intended. If this is undesired behavior for you see this article for a 'fix.' EDIT: I added this info to my OP above as well as added a note to the changelog. We will see about getting a wiki article up ASAP.

I knew that they removed the OS prober as a default option, but since the installer actually also offered to install it alongside existing OSes, I thought it must've been enabled. No biggy.
Here's a new torrent link. Does this one work? magnet:?xt=urn:btih:4bdbf426f7858478ea6d05f69d16728da685c82f&dn=bodhi-7.0.0-64-hwe-beta.iso&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.opentrackr.org%3A1337%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A6969%2Fannounce

The second torrent did start; I'm now helping seed it. [@xpistan maybe edit first post to delete broken torrent link]. And sourceforge did finally finish too. HWE version is looking great! Hard to find issues to report so far! One I did notice tho, terminology default background is none; is it supposed to be bodhi.png? Also seems can't send transparent (with picom) and have background at the same time, which worked in old versions....
In the alpha thread, I mentioned how although I recommend (and personally use) the nvidia-legacy and mozilla-team PPAs, I was more suggesting mirroring the packages in bodhi repo than including a PPA by default. Now I see this awesome web browser installation tool sets up PPAs automatically! That is really really cool! So suggestion is, move the mozillateam ppa installation over to that tool, instead of as a default source.
As to nvidia legacy, since only a very small percentage of users use it, I really don't think everyone should have to see that every time they update, so I still think it'd be best to mirror nvidia-340 packages in bodhi repo (and monitor the PPA for updates), but if that's no doable, I'm undecided on if I think including it by default is better than leaving it. If people with old nvidia gpu (like two of my computers) run into issues with buggy nouveau driver causing random lockups, it certainly is useful tho.
And back to that awesome browser util, there was one browser of note I didn't see offered: epiphany-browser, which is already in ubuntu repository. As one of the only webkit (not firefox or chromium) based browsers, it provides a useful alternative in some cases. Also, there is very little feedback to user while it is downloading and installing, just gotta cross fingers and hope it's working while watching Knight Rider looking thing go back and forth....
I also noticed the ISO seems to be a lot bigger than previous versions, although doesn't seem to me anything new really included (besides updated stuff of course)...
I previously ran into the dual-boot grub issue when I installed alpha on hardware. I did realize it was due to a change in grub tho, since it told me it was disabled.... so I reenabled os-prober; but it does seem to me if you install bodhi alongside another os thru the installer, it shouldn't be disabling it....
An old issue that's never been resolved, if ones strftime is longer than the time, depending on shelf size and scale factor, etc, strftime can be truncated, see attached. And I still think leading zeros, especially on 12-hour post meridian times, are wrong. (It's 8:15pm, not 08:15pm; 08:00 is 8am in 24-hour time, but there's no such thing as 08:00pm!)

Thanx for the reporting beta release.
Time gadget is a real pain in ass. Look at E25 clock gadget. I see the same truncate issue with full date format as well as leading zero feature. Believe me I spent prob hundreds hours on this module and clock theme edc file. Of course included some new features like weeks number etc. For me it is still a minor issue. I do not need to see "Wednesday" as I can set up shorter form and you know it. Expanding date row will expand also time numbers and it looks very bad. As I said I experimented a lot and it mostly led to frustration than solution. How is Tclock in this case? Is it working fine for you?

I haven't tested all the modules yet, including tclock. I did that on alpha tho and reported what I found then, and I'll do it again soon on beta. Unlikely I'll be able to find anything I haven't already mentioned in the alpha thread tho... The strftime truncation was pretty much the only thing I could find with beta that didn't work well, but this isn't a new problem, just mentioning it cuz I observed it in my first screenshot. As you suggested, can be worked around on the user side by using a shorter string, such as abbreviating the day of the week like it started by default.
This iso is looking great to me so far tho. Super impressed, great job guys!
Anyone else tried the s76 6.2 kernel version in virtualbox 6.1? Their changelog says their latest 6.1 release (which I have) should support linux 6.1/6.2 with initial support for 6.3.... so wonder if it boots for anyone else? probably the new virtualbox 7.x version would work, but I tried it a while ago and it wouldn't boot some of my existing VMs so I just stuck with 6.1.

I tried in Virtual box yesterday without any glitch. Yes, I think it is version 7 I have installed.

Same here. No problem with Oracle VM VirtualBox 7.0. Be it BL S76 or BL standard kernel.

By the way … it seems that Distrowatch.com has pushed out some old reviews … … which means that Bodhi is actually reaching an average (!) of 9,03 on a scale of ten at the moment. And although I am not a person to be too keen about statistics like those, I'd still say that this is rather impressive, ;-)
Well done, folks!

Yes, I announced this fact on discord yesterday. Not sure why they did it but we have very big rating. Let's hope it will help somehow Last review: "Perfect, fast, it rejuvenated my old otherwise unusable laptop." 10/10 Stefan
