Hello everyone,
is the Legacy Release of Bodhi Linux based on Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS still supported (and save)? I think that sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade does not deliver updates/upgrades to my system anymore considering the fact that Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Bionic Beaver reached end of life on 31 May 2023. What should be done to keep the 32-bit version of Bodhi Linux up to date -> may be upgrade to Ubuntu Pro? I know that the next 32-bit version should be based on Debian; this release is still not available on the home page of Bodhi Linux.
Thank you in advance.

I don't know eta, maybe ylee/thewaiter can chime in with an update, but the login motd still said bodhi 7 legacy is coming soon last time I checked! I know I'm anxious to test it myself.... There was a 6.0 legacy but it never made it to release I'm still running the beta version of it on my Pentium 4.... As to Bodhi 5.1, it is not officially supported anymore. The Bodhi repos are frozen, and so are ubuntu's main repos, but you can enroll in ubuntu's esm updates by signing up with them, and then it still gets security updates (I've done so myself and still run 5.1 on my main laptop). So I guess it's relatively safe. I dunno what I'd do if I wanted to set up another 32-bit system today tho. Probably go with antix, debian, or mx depending on hardware (and user skill level) - or leave my debian/ubuntu-based comfort zone and try void.

Robert will tell more here but today I tested his 64 bit Debian Bodhi ISO. He added an installer. From what I know he had to solve several very hard issues with ISO but I think if he manages to prepare 64 ISO, there is no obstacle to prepare 32 bit version. Let's Robert work.

Hi, thank you for yours answers.
Because Ubuntu Pro seems not to be solution for old 32-bit machines with architecture i686 (sorry, I didn't check it before), I would like to ask you what do you mean with "you can enroll in ubuntu's esm updates by signing up with them, and then it still gets security updates". What should I do to receive security updates for my machine? I really like to use Bodhi Linux; it's lightweight distribution which is still running quickly on almost 20 years old computer.

Hello, Tomas. I use Ubuntu Pro in my desk pc with Pentium 4 Prescott (3,4GHz) and in a very old notebook DELL Latitude D505 with Pentium M765 (2,1GHz), both with 32bit Lubuntu 18.04.6 as OS, kernel 5.4.0-159-generic. The machines work well. I had only to download and install the latest Firefox version from the Mozilla website in order to use an updated browser. As you, I'm waiting for the next 32bit version of Bodhi Linux. Try to add as PPA these, perhaps they can work (write each line preceded by https://):
esm.ubuntu.com/apps/ubuntu bionic-apps-updates InRelease esm.ubuntu.com/infra/ubuntu bionic-infra-security InRelease esm.ubuntu.com/infra/ubuntu bionic-infra-updates InRelease esm.ubuntu.com/apps/ubuntu bionic-apps-security InRelease

Yes, I mean Ubuntu Pro. ESM stands for expanded security/maintenance and gets you 10 year support, so for bodhi 5.1 that's til 2028. They explain it a bit on their web page ubuntu.com/18-04 . And it works on bodhi legacy and standard. It is free for personal use for first 5 machines. I even did it on my bodhi 7 machines because there are updates to universe/multiverse that you won't get without it, but of course, some people would rather not register with canonical for privacy reasons or whatever and that's understandable too. Or if it's for business purposes, it costs money...
So if you want to do it, first register with Ubuntu at wiki.ubuntu.com/Membership and then from the ubuntu pro website dashboard you can get a "token" you can add with "sudo pro attach [YOUR_TOKEN]" and then when you do normal "sudo apt update", you'll see a bunch more stuff available to "sudo apt upgrade".

It was announced on this forum.... I'm still running it on one of my machines....
But never made it past beta so was not announced any where else. The new version 7 Stefan mentioned will be based on debian 12 bookworm and I suspect a beta version for it will be announced on this forum early next year if you want to help test it, with release version to follow sometime after that.

I suspect public beta will be very soon, but I'll also watch this to see if he answers I've been testing the bodhidev version and it's in great shape... just saw a moksha update today so maybe he's working on finishing touches....
edit: rumour has it it may be available today or tomorrow, keep your eyes peeled for a new thread about it

Great, Robert! I have reported the new release and your links to Distrowatch, but until now they have not written an article in the website. In my opinion, it is an unkind thing in the consideration of this beautiful distro.
