Watched a almost an hour video, and the black shadows remain. I know its not the video card, it was the same thing before installing the nvidia driver. See first post.
EDIT: the black shadows do fade away over time, still using default background.

May I ask you for screenshot again? You removed it and I need to see it again to spot something relevant.

Removed it, didn't pick it up and hardly anything showed.
Tried multiple times, after viewing multiple screenshots, nothing shows.

Maybe a transparency setting isn't quite right... i.e. instead of 100% opaque it's only set to 98%?
I've googled for the problem and it seems some other people also have it on other distros or had it... even on Windows. Not sure if it is the same problem. I dimly remember that in the past I had a similar problem with Videos getting transparent where they should have been black... but neither do I know what solved it (and it wasn't on Bodhi) nor do I find anything on the internet. Sorry.

Went as far as installing Bodhi 7 64bit standard. No change. Perhaps monitor is going out slowly, forgot to mention that the very same thing happened with BL6, hwe. I currently have fresh s76 install, fully updated and software I use regularly installed. No nvidia driver yet, just nouveau. Black shadows continue. Monitor will have to wait. So for now, will have to live with it.
EDIT: xpistian, no idea where transparency (opaque) are.

Best I could do with a flip-phone, nothing else to use.
Screenshot is the desktop, hope you see it. Darker areas are shadows or residual effects or something left behind.

Hmm, never seen this before. Do you have a chance to connect another monitor or TV via hdmi?

Do have older monitors, no hdmi on them.
Newer machine has no vga ports, just 3 hdmi ports.
