WARNING:
Use one (and only one) of the following installation ways. Unless you know what you are doing, mixing these modes with each other is strongly discouraged.
-------------------------------- First way
Installing Videomass adding PPA in Bodhi-6-hwe
To install Videomass add this PPA to your system:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jeanslack/videomass
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt install python3-videomass
Videomass leaves the user free to choose how to install youtube-dl. You can install it from repositories or by using pip but not both ways at the same time.
$ sudo apt-get install youtube-dl
OR using pip (without sudo)
$ python3 -m pip install --user youtube-dl
Since there is only youtube-dl in the distribution repositories, you should install yt-dlp using pip exclusively:
$ python3 -m pip install --user yt-dlp
---------------------------------- Second way
If you want to use the most recent version or run Videomass without installing.
Install python3-pip, python3-wxgtk4.0, python3-requests, python3-pubsub from repository using Synaptic. Also check if ffmpeg package is already installed.
Now install youtube-dl and yt-dlp using pip (without sudo):
$ python3 -m pip install --user youtube-dl yt-dlp
After above installation you can already start Videomass from the source code of the program:
Download the source code from here:
github.com/jeanslack/Videomass/archive/refs/heads/master.zip
and unpack the archive. Enter the folder with the unpacked archive, open the folder in the terminal and run the command:
$ python3 launcher
Terminal will either launch the program or indicate a startup problem.
----------------------------------- Third way
Using pip to install the latest version of Videomass:
Install python3-pip, python3-wxgtk4.0, from repository using Synaptic. Also Check if ffmpeg package is already installed, then
$ python3 -m pip install --user videomass
If the program does not appear in the menu, start Videomass with the command:
$ videomass
Possible problems:
Version youtube-dl(20.03) from the repository will not be enough, therefore the version (v.21.04) is needed, we take from here:
archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/y/youtube-dl/youtube-dl_2021.04.07-0ubuntu1_all.deb
