Hi linux users ! I have just installed Bodhi linux 5.1 on a Aspire One D255 and I am really happy to make that old folk works again. So thank you Bodhi community ! I wasn't sure if the last distribution (6.0) was a good match for the 1GB of memory so I started with the previous version It's been a long time since I played with linux, so I am kind of rusty but I am willing to relearn and share my experience The installation worked well but I cannot make the Bodhi AppC work. In fact, I cannot go on the Bodhilinux.com website without having this error : Is there another Browser that can fit the needs of my notebook? I will check other options and keep you up to date. Other wise I followed the advice on Thread "Video choppy on old netbook" with the classic command lines
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rvm/smplayer
sudo apt install smtube
to be able to install SMTube that I didn't know and I am enjoying it
See you around !

Reply from a 2010 laptop (that I bought used for $110 on craigslist several years ago....).
Dunno whats going wrong with chromium, but other browsers should work too. With 1G of ram, I suggest palemoon! And firefox is fine too. sudo apt install palemoon firefox then check em out. palemoon will be a little less resource intensive, but still if you open too many tabs it'll get slow swapping them around. I personally have only ever run into one website ever that doesn't work on palemoon (and for the record i never tried faking my useragent to see if it actually worked anyway, I just used firefox when I got the msg about unsupported browser).
As far as the appcenter goes, try it from another browser once you get them installed. But even if its broken, if you don't mind wading thru the search results in synaptic (or using apt from command line) you can still install whatever you want.
Another thing, if its a new install and you havent ran updates, do that, at least get chromium (and other stuff) up to latest version with
sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade just to be sure its not something weird with old version, although version from iso should still be fully functional....
And woohoo on smtube from ppa, I agree that's very useful for youtube on old machines for sure.

Hello and welcome to Bodhi Linux! Glad to hear you got an old friend working again! I'm not positive, but searching on the net seems to indicate your Aspire would be able to run 64 bit Bodhi Linux 6.0.0. Having 1GB of memory puts your machine withing our minimum specs (though not by a large margin) www.bodhilinux.com/w/system-requirements/. I checked our AppCenter and it appears to be up. Possibly clear any cache your browser has, run system updates and try again. Glad your internet seems to be working otherwise and nice work on installing SMTube - it has a fair amount of friends around here Also, Pale Moon or Firefox may be better bet as enigma9o7 suggested. Cheers!

I don't have any productive input beyond what others have already said, but welcome to Bodhi! My first Bodhi experience was also with an old, weak netbook (which I still have lying around), and I've been a major Bodhi fan ever since. Feel free to hang out with us in the discord or post here anytime for help or even just to chat.

to be fair, nobody even tried to debug is chromium issue... I havent seen stuff like that, but if we wanna figure it out, we'd need more info. Do other websites behave weird? I suspect you probably need to disable hardware acceleration, some old gpu cannot handle that in chromium (in my case my 2004 & 2006 pcs...) open chromium settings, search for acceleration, disable it.

Please can troubleshooting etc be done on the support boards. A few 'introduce yourself' posts have turned into support threads, and it would be good to keep things in their right place. Saves me (having to get around to) tidying the forums up. Many thanks

First thank you all for the warm greetings everyone.
Oh my gosh... I thought I was rusty but moldy would be better ahaha... I will let you know how I went through this in a thread on the support board to avoid polluting the welcoming board. I have so many questions
I am not used to post in forums so I have to get my bearings
