hello friendly folks, again a happy day using BL 6 standard edition. After today's update, i noticed that vim was added. When i run the program, nothing happens. Hope my memory is still in good shape, i do not recall seeing the vim icon so far in the menu. I do not really need vim anyways... Attachments:

I'm wondering if you should actually install VIM or remove/purge it? Have you tried to uninstall it? My thought was install it to uninstall it, but likely there is a more eloquent way to remedy this.
[EDIT] There was some recent chat on our Discord recently about Vi and VIM:
Not sure it's terribly pertinent...

This is a problem with the shortcut (desktop file). vim itself is installed as vi, but the desktop file pointing to vim.
From terminal, just remember to run 'vi' instead of vim, or create yourself an alias. From the menu entry, either hide it or fix the exec line locally.
To fix desktop file, copy it from /usr/share/applications to ~/.local/share/applications and edit with text editor.

No, if you uninstall something, it won't be reinstalled in an update (unless something else updates to require it as a dependency). But I don't think you *can* remove vim from bodhi 6 easily, since their is no vi/vim package installed. It must be part of some basic utils package that we really shouldn't get rid of.
However, if you directly edit the desktop file in /usr/share/applications (which requires sudo), then an update could overwrite your edited file. That's why I suggested to copy it to your home dir as described above. If you want it to hide it (instead of fix the exec line) then add "NoDisplay=true".
You could also use a menu editor like menulibre to hide or fix it you dont like editing text files, i.e:

I couldn't let this go, so I did find the package bodhi 6 has vim in, and it does seem safe to remove. It's vim-tiny
