I am considering adding Bodhi as a secondary distro. However I noticed there is no option to skip bootloader installation. Yes, I could rework things the way I want them but an option to skip would be a time saver.

The installer Bodhi uses is ubiquity. I think you can install without a boot loader by doing but I haven’t tried it recently.

You can simply install grub2 to the actual partition that you are installing linux on, instead of to the mbr of the drive. This is selectable in the installer. If you do that, your original grub will be untouched, but you will have to boot into the distro that installed that version of grub to modify anything.
So, as a concrete example, instead of (say) /dev/sda as the grub installation target, you might select /dev/sda2, if that is where / for the new installation is going.
