in regards to this thread and a few others i can think of within the past six months or so on lq, i was wondering if it might be helpful (especially for new users) to label ARandR a little differently to make its purpose easier to discern. the icon does give a clue, but for anyone who isn't aware of xrandr the name isn't very descriptive. lots of other distros (not that i want bodhi to be like them in general, but from a familiarity standpoint it seems like this small adjustment could be useful) have a Display program that looks or at least acts like a gui front end for xrandr. it seems to me even if it was labeled "ARandR Display" or something similar, its function would be more easily understood.

p.s. i have noticed over the many years of using enlightenment and moksha/bodhi tthat the terms are a bit different and have learned to accept them as is or try to figure certain things out by trial and error. and some i just never use. a few i asked and others have straughtened me out. the waiter has helped a bit too i must add in the past.

oh - i just wanted to add that maybe that example is not endemic to e but to other computer relevacnies. some terms due seem to be endemic to e and others just seem to be absorbed by other computers terms/languages/uses. I may be wrong. my 1 cent.

thanks for the links. i wasn't saying that i don't know what those things do. just that they might be easier to understand for new users with a small adjustment. some things you just have to learn or learn to live with i guess. i have done so and get along just fine with the tools bodhi has put at my disposal. i was just making a suggestion

I agree, we often answer the same questions on the forums. One of them is a question related to screen resolution or multiscreen setting. I am OK with changing Arandr to something more descriptive. Anyway what a pity there is a native tool for this inside the Moksha settings but buggy. Maybe we (devs) should have a look. I am expecting advanced level if not undoable.

Can't moksha's menu use generic names? From /usr/share/applications/arandr.desktop:
GenericName=Screen Settings

Resize & Rotate. I believe thats what randr stands for. Could call it that too. But I guess it's really Another Resize & Rotate.

Just to let all know I have zero interest in renaming ARandR. A standard install of BL 5.1 comes with only 10 apps or so in the menu. It is not unreasonable to expect users to figure out what these apps do on their own if they don't know. Most are obvious. Bodhi has never claimed to be a Distro for Linux beginners and to clear up any misunderstanding it is not a distro for Linux beginners. ARandR is an app that should be well known to any Linux user with experience as is synaptic. Besides ARandR is its name, it is not my program and it is not for me to rename it. I already modify it to make it more Bodhi friendly but that is as far as I am going with modifying it.

I agreed with changing ARandR name in my previous post because we really answer the same questions. I was thinking about the better name for new users but sorta failed in this. We can let it be as you said, or (if we wanna be very friendly to our new users) make a diplomatic name: "ARandR Screen Layout Editor". www.enlightenment.org/ss/e-5f131c2024e652.38950644.jpgJust an idea, but I think you have already made a decision S

I think being more descriptive might help. What about a mouse over thing. So when the cursor is over it a little description pop up pops up? Just a thought. Kind of compromise.
