Hi all,
I just wanted to share my amazement with Bodhi Linux. I have an 8 inch intel tablet with 1GB RAM. I searched all over for a distro that was awesome and light on memory that was running the Ubuntu kernel. I needed the Ubuntu kernel because other distros couldn't get the bluetooth working without knowledge beyond my abilities. The best I got was Ubuntu with openbox but that still used over 300MB running nothing but openbox. 1GB of RAM limits how much the DE can use if you want to do other things on the tablet.
So I nearly lost my mind when I discovered Bodhi. Observing memory usage I realised that it was at times running the entire desktop using 150MB. But it averaged at 250MB with only a terminal and TOP running.
I struggled to get Ubuntu running like that so I knew I found the right distro for my tablet. Though I couldn't boot Bodhi on my tablet because the tablet needed a 32bit EFI to boot a 64bit OS. BUT with some mucking about I did it.
I used the idea from:
The site owner claims to have created a script to respin an 64bit Ubuntu/ Ubuntu Flavour with 32bit boot functionality. Unfortunately it doesn't work for Bodhi Linux. However I did respin Ubuntu 18.04 and then inject the 32bit EFI files into a Bodhi 5.1.0 ISO file with ISOMASTER.
I really just wanted to share that in case other might find themselves in a similar situation. I paid less than $60 US for the tablet so I am wrapped to have linux on it. I am tweaking Bodhi to work better on it. Like inserting an auto rotation script. It plays SupertuxKart, it plugs into HDMI, I've installed Kodi and connected it to my Wiimotes. 'Onboard' makes a great virtual keyboard. I'm looking into a launcher like LXlauncher or 'Pather launcher/ Slingshot'. Touch input is only recognised as Mouse so that needs working.
So well done on such a feature rich, functional and light weight distro. I may have more questions to help get it perfect on my tablet but for now thank you.

Excellent. I've seen 150mb memory usage before but I think I had to unload some of the default modules to do that... but around 200MB memory usage with just a terminal open is totally normal and what makes Bodhi so responsive even on old hardware.
I find bluetooth in general annoying, but blueman does work for me to pair a gamepad and stays paired just fine after reboot... got me curious tho, never tried bluetooth on another distro. 64-bit OS on 32-bit EFI is something I've occasionally seen people ask about but never understood myself. So if you feel like documenting exactly how someone else could repeat it, I could pin it or we could asked for it to be wikified for the benefit of others in your position, or maybe even get ylee to release the next version with an iso for that use case... cuz I think a few models of those 1-2GB RAM + 32-bit EFI + 64-bit CPU machines exist that Bodhi would be great for, especially after hearing you say STK runs well. Must have decent GPU to do STK well tho... thats one game my old machines cannot quite keep up with.... supertux and extremetuxracter and frozen-bubbles, no problem tho.... kodi is great media player but not at all light so glad that works well for you too... I use android version of it on firetv.... also used on on my phone as primary media player when I was running sailfishOS... just haven't used it on real linux before. For youtube playback on old hardware if your browser can't handle it, try smtube...

Hi Snowy, I am interested to know what steps, exactly, do you have followed for run bodhi in your system. I am in your previous situation. I have a laptop 2 in 1 asus t100ta with an architecture of 64 bit and uefi on 32 bit with 2 gb ram and 27gb hard disk. I hope run bodhi live for see if it works fine before install it on pc. Thanks.

You get the benefit of "smoother than inside browser playback" with any media player btw... vlc, mpv, smplayer all play youtube links without browser needed... I can play 720p youtube on my pentium4 which can *barely* do youtube at 360p in browser. My understanding is because browsers are not using gpu acceleration to play hd video under linux, so pure software decoding takes place which will max out old CPU.
smtube can be used with any media player but by default will bring in smplayer if you sudo apt install from ubuntu repo or official ppa... and i think is listed in bodhi appcenter even...
I think this is because its a recommend dependency and by default bodhi has apt set to install recommends automatically?
