Dear forum Bodhi I am new of this world and I'd rather know specific things about this wonderful o.s. Bodhi: is it possible improve the boot speed? From "power on" to "desktop" ? Turn off pc = 2-3 seconds very good Thanks in advance for your answers.  |

The biggest improvement in boot speed for me, was to replace my old spinning harddrive with a solid state drive.

So anyone interested will have something to compare to.
From power button press to user password input = 1 minute, 24 seconds. This does include the Grub countdown timer. I could shorten that to gain a few seconds.
From password input to desktop = 20 seconds. The only "programs" being loaded are the ibar and the gadgets on the shelf.
So 1 minute 44 seconds not counting the time it takes to input my password.
This is on an old 64bit Toshiba laptop with 1.3GHz AMD E-300; 4Gb ram; 320 Gb HDD.
It's nothing to brag about but for me it's fast.

The AMD E-300 is a dual core processor, with (as you noted) a 1.3 GHz clock speed. Changing the HDD for SSD will speed up boot substantially, but that processor will always be rather leisurely doing anything.

Thanks for the info! But, since I'm retired, I'm rather leisurely at doing most things. So the old Toshiba and I get along just fine. As to changing to SSD, as my father used to say, you can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig.  |
