Hello there! I'm not that new to Linux, but i'm not an expert at all. Most of what i do is google and copy commands, but now i'm forced to use Linux because of an old 2008 MacBook. Thanks to Bodhi, this Mac is now fully functional and it's great, i'm loving Bodhi so much and i'm glad i landed on it and i'm sticking to it. However, there's a little "issue" i have. I tried Mint Xfce as well before this. I had to install b43fwcutter and a broadcom thingy to make my WIFI work, but even though i got the WIFI going, Mint said there was a problem with my broadcom thingy and offered me to delete it and update it, which i did. This gave me up to 9MB/s of download speed while using terminal or qbittorrent. But now i'm on Bodhi, and i got the WIFI working through the same means, however Bodhi didn't notify me about the broadcom issue, so now my WIFI works well on Bodhi, but the download speeds are not that high, and i'm connected to the same 5G network. Most i get while downloading stuff is 2MB/s, if i'm lucky. How does one go about updating what needs to be updated here..? Please be kind and patient! Haha, i'm learning. Thank you to anyone who offers to help here

Bodhi 7 has a broadcom script which might help. Try typing bcm ina terminal and it should select and install the correct Broadcom driver for you.

Hey Hippy, i tried bcm ina and it revealed my wifi device being 14e4:432b, but it said i had an unidentified wifi card and had to check the Bodhi wiki, which i did. Doing this i found out that what i needed to install is the bcmwl-kernel-source, which i did. Installation went fine, i lost wifi during which is a good sign, and then rebooted. However, i am now downloading a torrent and the speed remains the same at almost 2MB/s... Appreciate your help

Actually, what i did seemed to work! It just took a bit to take effect. Now i'm getting downloads up to 8MB/s! Thanks Hippy for sending me on the right path

Hmmm That script Hippy recommended is my little project. I am sorta confused because your bcm device is in the devices list and it should work and install the suitable package. github.com/thewaiter/bcm/blob/main/bcm.shStefan

I've, had the same problem, but on an HP Netbook. I ran the command, but the most recent driver was already installed. Only getting download speeds of about 3 MB/s

Now solved:
sudo apt purge broadcom-sta-dkms sudo apt purge broadcom-sta-source sudo apt purge broadcom-sta-common sudo apt purge bcmwl-kernel-source
If some are the packages are not installed and therefore not removed, that’s fine; just proceed to the next step.
sudo apt update && sudo apt -y upgrade sudo apt install -y bcmwl-kernel-source
