I have an old Acer Aspire SW5-014 netbook [2gb Ram and 32gb Hard Drive Emc] that had Windows 8 on it but ran extremely slow. I installed Chromium from Neverware on it which later turned into ChromeOS Flex after Google bought it over. Everything worked fine except for the sound which never worked at all after installing Chromium.
Recently, I installed Linux Mint to try and sort the problem. It did to some extent as I could view and listen to YouTube or Spotify but only for a very short while. After a few minutes, I get this constant loud alarm from the netbook and the music just freezes and stops. I then removed Linux Mint and installed Bodhi Linux to see if that would help. Sadly no, I just get the same issue that I got from Linux Mint - the same loud alarm after a few minutes and it just freezes.
Can someone with knowledge please advise what is causing this problem? Is it because my netbook is too old [10 years] and the hardware is not compatible with Linux?
My main computer is a Chromebook and I can’t say I am smart enough [Or want to be] to tinker about with Linux language. I am happy enough to use my netbook with Bodhi installed just to use the Google Chrome browser and log into my account that way, where I can surf, read my emails and use my Google sheets and Docs, when needed.
If someone could help with my audio problem, I would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards, TrevTheBev

Hi Stefan,
Many thanks for your quick reply.
I'm not sure if you have misunderstood me when I say my main computer is a Chromebook. It is, but that is a separate unit.
My question is for the Acer netbook which I have installed Bodhi Linux on and the audio crashes after several minutes and I get the loud alarm.
They are completely different computers but I just thought that the netbook with Bodhi could be used as a backup unit.

Ah, yes, misunderstood. I just briefly read your post. I am not expert on all Acer models so I expected it is a Chromebook. Problem you described was mentioned in relations to Chromebook. Sorry then
I would check alsamixer, but it can be something else.
Stefan
