What is the problem you're having, is it that you click on a link to a telegram group from your browser, then telegram opens but doesn't join the group you clicked on? Not sure how this relates to NordVPN. You mentioned using the latest version of Telegram, which version number do you mean? Do you mean latest telegram-desktop from official repos? Looks like that's version 3.6 on regular BL7 and 4.6.5 on legacy/debodhi (with 4.8.1 in backports). Perhaps it's already fixed in newer version - maybe worth trying the flatpak or appimage, just to see if different behavior? Is it only a brave problem, or does it work as expected in other browsers? I noticed this related issue, but also inactive, but has some ideas. github.com/telegramdesktop/tdesktop/issues/8626

Thanks for your reply. Yes, that's correct, click on a link to a telegram group from my browser, telegram opens but doesn't join the group. A pop-up appears and says "Open this link?" and then I can't open it. That same thing happended trying to connect to NordVPN the first time. Maybe I should start another thread about Nord, but will spend some time looking for general Nord/Linux problems first.
I'm using Telegram version 4.15 on BL6, updates are automatic. I'm using the appimage from telegram.org. I tried the flatpack sometime back and it had even worse problems. Pretty sure, iirc telegram was closing unexpectedly with the flatpack version.
The problem I am currently having happens on all browsers.

I found a workaround for the NordVPN problem. Telegram links are still problematic.

If its related to telegram, it would be something that gets configured during package installation. Since the appimage is not packaged, there is no "installing" it so it doesn't get an opportunity to run postinstall scripts, etc.
It seems like there should be a way to configure your browser to do it tho.

Thanks for that info. It should be noted that the same thing happens when trying to open a Discord link as shown below. Nothing happens when I click on "Open xdg-open". I will look into browser related issues. Screen Shot

This happens on Chromium also. Any suggestions on xdg configuration?

This problem is still unsolved. When I enter 'xdg-mime query default' I get the following: user@user-ThinkCentre-M93p:~$ xdg-mime query default xdg-mime: mimetype argument missing Try 'xdg-mime --help' for more information. user@user-ThinkCentre-M93p:~$
