Can I install Bodhi on a very old machine like this? I am very old too and a a complete beginner ;-)

Yes. It won't be fast, but it will indeed be usable. If my research is correct, its got up to 2GB of memory (RAM) and either a 32-bit amd sempron cpu or a 64-bit amd turion cpu. If it's the 32-bit version, you need the legacy version of Bodhi, whereas the 64-bit version can use standard version.
Do you have any way to check the spec, in particular RAM & CPU? If not, just try the standard or apppack version and see what happens. If you do need the legacy version, I suggest you use the beta version that is expected to be announced in next day or two as the last official legacy release is quite old and no longer officially supported.
