Hello! I'm trying to run a script which uses `notify-send`, however, I only see a notification when using `-u critical`.
Example:
user@host:~$ notify-send test
# nothing happens
user@host:~$ notify-send -u critical test
# - A message pops up on the screen saying "test"
# - The number on the Notification gadget (on the shelf) increases by 1
This happened after installing Bodhi Linux 7. I'm not sure if it's something that I configured wrongly or if it is something else.

Hmm, I can remember I had some troubles with notif priorities after Robert's eldbus work (it is edbus in BL 5). What I did was just helping Robert adapting my notif gadget to new library and have all the stuff back like notif actions, notif icons etc. I think this is most likely a thread for ylee but of course I can look at that as well. confirmed bug, happening for me too on current moksha! thewaiter (Note it doesn't happen on old moksha in bodhi 5.1, so this is a regression.) "notify-send test" works for me on my Desktop (a BL7 install) and two VMs i use that both have BL7 installed. So at the moment I can not duplicate this issue. Issues I can not duplicate are rather hard to fix. Anyway I am not gonna have time to look at this anyway until this weekend. For the record it looks like my Notif settings are the same as yours, Moksha defaults I think. |

We need more info to know. What version of BL7 did you install? Or did you install from source? Did you install something extra after Bodhi installation?

Hmmm weird. I first tested it on bodhi 5.1 and is working fine for all three notification types. Then I tried in my debodhi legacy test vm as I had it open aleady, and it only worked for critical, so I figured it was a Moksha regression, I didn't test anything further. I'll do some further testing, I wonder what busypiggy and me coulda both done to break it.

For a small test, I tried running Bodhi from the USB stick from which I made the installation, and `notify-send test` worked there. I'm also wondering what this could be... All the best to everyone! |

I haven't gotten around to following up yet, but yeah in my test vm I've installed all sorts of stuff, tons of stuff, stuff I don't use normally on my real machine, just to test it. So Im guessing based on your comment there is something we installed that somehow breaks it, just weird tho. I hope I can figure it out. I've got a broken dishwasher machine that's driving me crazy, spent hours and hours on it, if I can fix it tonight I'll have time to play with notifications tomorrow. Just now came to the computer to try finding a service manual or youtube video or something cuz I can't figure out how to get the damn pump off, but of course instead of looking it up, first thing I do is check the forum, I'm easily distracted.  |

Thank you! Yes, this is the reason. Presentation mode seems to block all notifications that aren't critical. So no bug, just user error, including me!
Presentation Mode has always confused me a bit what it exactly does anyway, but I suspect when I got the popup I clicked "yes and stop asking", cuz there is no option for "no and stop asking!". My guess is the same kinda thing happened to you busypiggy! Anyway it does make a little sense, you wouldn't want notifications popping up while giving a presentation with your screen shared on a projector or whatever.
busypiggy start/settings/mode and uncheck presentation! Please confirm it works for you. |

Yes, I can also confirm the presentation mode is a culprit. Actually I am Ok with this feature. Some devices use to call it DnD - Do not disturb. Quite useful in some situations.

I agree it is a useful feature to have in the menu, but I' recommend getting rid of the popup message suggesting it, or at least offer an option for "no and dont ask again" when it does pop up.

I confirm the problem here was the same. After disabling presentation mode, `notify-send test` makes a notification appear.
I had probably enabled presentation mode one day, either willingly or unwillingly, and then forgot it was on (it also persists between reboots).
