Hi all! My HP Laserjet Pro M102w printer should be working. At least to my not-so-expert eyes. I followed all the directions in the HP Developer's Portal to install the HP drivers and all. The only problem is that it won't print – which is annoying. Everything looks like it's all ready to go, but when I select a document to print ... nothing happens. So, a couple of questions: 1. How can I get the HP device manager to auto-start? I couldn't find it in the menu of applications; although hp-uiscan is in the "OTHER" applications. 2. What should I look for to correct this wee problem? Brand new toner in it and everything, but the 'ready' light on top never comes on. Even a nudge in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, all!

Oh, one other thing. The only thing that prints is the HP Network summary (test) page.
And even then, I have to push the bottom of the ready button on the top of the machine for that much to happen.
Thanks!

Have you tried installing the bodhi-printing package?
sudo apt install bodhi-printing

Have you tried installing the bodhi-printing package? sudo apt install bodhi-printing Hi, Hippytaff! I've been all over the place and didn't get around to checking this out. I did not know about bodhi-printing. I installed it. BUT ... still no joy. So, I tried swapping that M102w number with another one I had lying about (HP Deskjet D2530). STILL no joy. The printers both showed up and all that good stuff. But when I tried to print a test page; nothing. Not even an error message of some sort. Is there something else I should be looking for? Like using inxi or CUPS or something? It's kind of annoying because both these printers worked fine when I was using Mint Xfce some time ago...

HI (again) HIppytaff (or anyone else familiar with Bodhi printer STUFF): I did play about with the printer software. Still no joy printing. As soon as I tried printing the test page, the status 'stopped' showed almost immediately. I did save the debugging text, though. Which makes my head spin (a bit more than usual), since I don't really know what to look for. What sort of thing should I look for in all that, that ... stuff? HUGE TEXT OUTPUT ALERT Said debugging output text is as follows: Page 1 (<troubleshoot.SchedulerNotRunning.SchedulerNotRunning object at 0x7fd65e06d4b0>): {'cups_connection_failure': False} Page 2 (<troubleshoot.CheckLocalServerPublishing.CheckLocalServerPublishing object at 0x7fd65e06e3e0>): {'local_server_exporting_printers': False} Page 3 (<troubleshoot.ChoosePrinter.ChoosePrinter object at 0x7fd65e076350>): {'cups_dest': <cups.Dest Deskjet-D2500-series (default)>, 'cups_instance': None, 'cups_queue': 'Deskjet-D2500-series', 'cups_queue_listed': True} Page 4 (<troubleshoot.CheckPrinterSanity.CheckPrinterSanity object at 0x7fd65e06e950>):
etc etc etc
{'printer_page_size': 'Letter', 'system_locale_lang': None, 'user_locale_ctype': 'en_CA', 'user_locale_messages': 'en_CA'}

Looks like you need Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) installed. I'm not familiar with "bodhi-printing", but installing CUPS works.

Cups is in the Bodhi-printing package and a gui for Cups.
Using the gui in the package might help you troubleshoot the issue.

I've never had an HP printer, but I believe the "hplip" package may be worth installing.
For additional troubleshooting you can also look directly at the cups server in your browser, http://localhost:631

I assumed hplip was installed by default, not sure why. Anyway just did a quick check and it’s not. Good call enigmasudo apt update && sudo apt install hplip

Try: sudo apt install avahi-daemon hplip
... then reboot and see if it discovers your printer.

Hi there enigma9o7, Hippytaff, tenplus1 and haywoodkb ...
It's working now! Oorah!
Hippytaff's suggestion of
sudo apt update && sudo apt install hplip did the trick – the avahi-daemon was part and parcel of that as it happens.
I should have tried that sudo install of hplip the first time.
That ... thing ... I tried installing with much more messing about per the HP website really wasn't all that helpful. Much more complicated that the one terminal line. And it didn't work either.
Oh well, just so long as it's working right and proper I'm happy.
Thanks, all!!
