Hi there!
I just installed Bodhi 7.0 on my machine and it looks some nice.
Now the thing is, I'm kind of fond of making my own icons for launching several apps at one time. For example, If I'm doing a spot of programming, I like to open Geany, and Thunar, and Cherry Tree, etc etc.
I'm just curious if it's possible to make a customized shelf that shows such customized icons by their lonesome and not on the ibar?
And if that's not an option, how do you enable desktop icons again? (There's just so many settings and I'm not yet familiar with them).
Thanks in advance!

Yes you can do this a number of ways. You would create a desktop file which defines the icon and what to execute. You could string a number of commands together using &, or you could call a script that you've written. You may have to use something like Exec=sh -c "this&that&thisotherthing" But to get it on a shelf or on the desktop without using desktop icons you would use an ibar. But you can have another ibar with just one application if you want. You can have as many shelves and as many ibars as you want on each shelf, with as many applications on each ibar as you want. And you can have ibars directly on the desktop if you have the desktop gadgets module enabled (which it is by default).
You can make ibars invisible, and there are various styles. Is there some reason you didn't want to use an ibar, because their specific purpose is for app icons.... I mean yeah I guess desktop icons have a similar purpose, but they're really for file icons, even tho they also support desktop/app icons too.

Hi there enigma9o7: I've been doing this icon launching stuff for ages. What I usually do is write a bash and then set the exec command in the .desktop icon file to run that bash instead of specific apps with loads of "&". It's worked a treat for me for ages. The problem I've had trying to create ibars is that they are all the same on different shelves. If I change anything on an ibar all other ibars automatically change to match it. Is there some (nearly-obvious) setting I'm missing? Thanks for your time, by the way...

In iBar settings you can find a source list. There is only a default item there which is a default iBar. You can press "Add" to add an another iBar source. Now you can place another apps to new iBar source. It is possible, I tried it several times. You need to play with that a bit.

You're right, I did need to mess about with that a bit. I'm used to task bars (rather than Bodhi shelves) and they don't have iBars. Thank you so much!
