Bodhi RC 7.0.0 on HP t630 Thin Client on the internal 8GB SATA SSD becomes unresponsive after running `sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade` filling up all available diskspace. Upon reboot, the OS gets stuck with a black background and the normal arrow mouse cursor.

i know nearly zero about Bodhi and Linux in general but I do have a lot of very old school, dated Unix knowledge circa 1994-1996.

My comment:
Based on my old timey knowledge, if you literally filled up the disk as you stated I would expect the OS to become unresponsive and not able to function even on reboot because it cannot write to the system logs due to lack of space. This was a huge issue with AIX on the RS6000 back in the mid 90s.
It will be interesting to see responses from knowledgeable people with modern Linux knowledge.

I do know it's a bad idea to not have free space. Probably it's just the desktop that cannot start, probably you can get to tty (ctrl+alt+f2) and do some cleanup, or if not, the root recovery shell from grub advanced options.
Moksha has a places module you can use to set a warning when your free disk space is low. Can use that to avoid the problem in the future.

I'm not wondering that you go out of the disk space. Edited: Possible workaroung I see to create BL70 /root partition on an attached USB 3.0 flash pen 16Gb at least and /var and /home partitions - on the internal storage.
