It is possible to have an icon (arrow up and arrow down in ArcGreen theme) for network connections in the systray. I have not managed to find it anywhere else. I'd like to have it permanently visible in the shelf bar I have set on top of the screen. Can that be done somehow or is the systray necessary for having network settings available? There are advanced network settings in the settings panel but they do not offer a box for 'enable WiFi', for example.

Yes. Add "network" to your startup apps, and then nm-applet will appear in your system tray. Of course you must have systray module on a shelf to see it.

I think you misread my question. I wrote that the systray is the only place I've managed to get the arrow-icon to appear and I'm asking if it is possible to get it directly to the shelf. It doesn't appear on the shelf contents so I'm quite sceptical about the possibility.

Yeah I misunderstood. There is no moksha module/gadget for network management, so nope, nothing you can put directly on shelf.
What's the problem with using system tray tho? Scaling issues?

No problems. It would have been a neater outlook with one less gadget, that's all.
