Hi, I'm from Perth (Western Australia that is, not Scotland) and I just installed my second instance of Bodhi on an old HP notebook. My first was on a very old Lenovo R400 laptop but as it only has less than 1GB RAM it struggles even with Bodhi, but it did what I needed, just very slowly. Thanks for having me I will post a problem I have soon. All for now
Cheers

Hi wiz
Welcome to the forums and community. Glad you’re using Bodhi, it is good for bringing older machines back to life and allowing newer ones more headroom. Feel free to post any issues here or hop on to our discord channel for a chat and/or support.

Hi Wiz,
nice to see someone who is trying to revive or keep alive older computers. Bodhi seems to be among the best distros when it comes to having a usable experience on an old device. In my experience it is worth giving older Thinkpads some love in the form of additional ram and replacing the HDD with an SSD. After that you will have a very smooth ride with even older ones (writing this on a Thinkpad X61t). Your R400 will be even easier to upgrade as it takes up to 8 GB and uses DDR3, which is much more common to find these days than DDR2.
Hope you have fun with your machines!

Knut is right: I have a ThinkPad T400 and a T400s with 4gb ram and SSD, and they works very good with Bodhi Linux and also with Win7. They are built like tanks, and I like to use them. You can get 2x2gb Ram for 10 euro and a 128gb SSD for 10-15 euro. Pay attention to the clock and voltage of Ram: DDR3L, for example, do not work on my old ThinkPads.

I'll be the OT guy and say all I know about Perth is a show that Billy Connolly did their once and joked about it's remoteness.
"You know, we're closer to the f***ing moon than Melbourne."
Welcome Wiz!
