Hello there I'm just back into Bodhi after forgetting how good it is and getting distracted with a few other distros. I can't help tryin g things out all the time in my eternal search for increased novelty quotient. It's the ADHD I guess.
Bodhi is just so fast and sleek it's drawn me back again. Probably won't need so many partitions on my ssd before long .
I have to have a windohs partition unfortunately for my work stuff. I support disabled students in Higher Education train ing in use and optimisation of Assistive Technology/software , virtually all of which is windohs only.. ; (
One day it will all be open-source. In my dreams ! In reality it's been a minefield of commercialised old, not very impressive software with several rival developers squabbling over the same badly digitalised version of an age old research tool/concept for the majority of the two decades since I was an undergrad. Spelling aids, note taking , mind-mapping etc...
But recently there has at last been a change as a few new developers have launched new softwares and companion mobile apps in the sector.
It's moderately encouraging seeing mobile devices being used as the common platform but some are just adapted from their PC versions and not easy to control.
As a Neurodivergent Learner as well as facilitator/trainer with ADHD and other spectrum traits/cognitive differences I'd be keen to colaborate with anyone interested in dev work in this field.
I've lost some faith in tech and a lot of the initial enthusiasm I had for IT back in the mid 80's when I saw the potential of computer controlled systems in the future.
I'm from an age when engineers were concerned about making the best and most durable things they could not at all like today where the main concern is to make something that works until the end of it's warranty period, then fails and is completely non-repairable.
On top of this, the conventions of the 'operating system' have become so ingrained into the UI that the whole user experience has become increasingly fiddly and counter-intuitive for the novice user which seems pointless, as far as inclusion is concerned .
The focus on company profit has eclipsed all other outcomes in product development these days it seems.
But if the return to higher ethics and goals is to make a comeback it would probably come from the open-source com munity .
So, let's get on with it . I'll be your neurodivergent betatester . Give me a shout .
High hopes and a little spark of optimism still left for the future, it's got me this far...
Regards
