Currently, the Off Topic board is not available to guests.
This seems to be a recent occurrence over the past few days.

Yes, suggested by @gini to encourage users to engage without worrying about the whole internet being able to see. Just members. It’s a trial and I guess we can see how we feel about it in a while and review it.
What’s your opinion?

Was this announced in news or discord? It's a solid idea and I'm onboard, however, I also know we moderate well, so hopefully everyone feels safe already?

No I didn’t announce it, mentioned something on the team channel on discord and had no one with strong opinions either way so just thought we’d trial it, see how it goes

I think its a good idea. For reasons that Hippy wrote and i agree with it, cause i had that idea. I used to have a own forum, years ago and my users wanted that to feel more free. Guest shouldnt read what users write in a more personal subforum. Many boards handle that this way.
But if it is not wanted, well, change it back.
But then, i also cannot write there anymore cause i feel uncomfortable then.
I think guests should register if they are interested in Bodhi. Then they can read the Lounge too. But thats my opinion. So you all decide. Not me. I just decide what i do or not. :-)

The reason I don't like it is I occasionally use a different web browser which will not stay signed in for very long. I'm always testing web browsers and checking how their updates affect performance.
So now I am forced to sign in if I want to check the Off Topic area for posts that may need responding to.
Leave it the way you want, but I really don't see the harm in allowing guests to read it. They're reading everything else and if they're compelled to join and discuss because they see my web browser and distro opinions then that's a plus for this forum.

Ah yeah, I forgot about your browser series. Sorry, for some reason it didn’t occur to me that they were on the OT boards, I look at everything via the recent threads page, so often I don’t know what board the post is on unless I check…Ok, I’ll have a think. There’s got to be a way I can have the penny and the bun. Leave it with me. Thanks for the reminder.

Hello kev392, sorry that I interfere there... I have read what you write but I had a question about this. And please do not misunderstand, I mean this question in no way malicious. So you have this browser problem because you are testing browsers. But look, why should other people miss out on something just because you're doing this testing? Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not criticizing you as a person. I just want to understand why your desire to test browsers should be an argument against the desire to have a private subforum in a forum? You can test your browser with other subforums. Why just the lounge? I personally don't find your argument convincing. Also, this is not about "harm" but about trust, feeling comfortable and encouraging other users to give some private space in a public forum. Which, by the way, is seen by many forums the same way. That's why I wonder.... Why just the lounge... ?
Then you wrote:
To do so, (answering) you must log in anyway.....
Hmm...
But anyway, there would be only two solutions:
1) Move the browser check to another subforum. or 2) A new subforum called Lounge (or whatever) which can't be read by guests.
This would be a democratic solution.

I was going to create a new board call user reviews or something and move Kevs awesome threads there. Struggling to think of a name. Suggestions welcome

User reviews would be great cause over there, all users could write how wonderful Bodhi is. I still want to write a review about E25 and Moksha but didnt know where...

I don't have a problem with having a user's only subforum.
I just don't think it should encompass such a wide variety of subjects like other distros and the like.
If moving my posts to a different area is called for, then that seems reasonable.

The whole thing seems centered around Gini's posts in the Off Topic forum. Shouldn't Gini have her own Off Topic forum, where guests are not allowed to read per her wishes, and just leave everything else the same as before.

That seems like the easy solution. Set "The Lounge" back the way it was, and create another off topic "Members Eyes Only" subforum that is restricted it to logged-in members, and move Gini's existing lounge threads to it. In the future if she or anyone want to post for members eyes only they can post there, and that allows the lounge to remain as it always has been.

That sounds good to me. Is that a plan we can all buy into? A fair compromise. Everyone’s feelings and opinions accounted for!?
Edit - I’ll give it until this evening (UK evening) for people to have a chance to have their say and then make the agreed changes (according to consensus).
