I had promised another Bodhi linux ISO featuring Enlightenment for some time now but have been waiting for Rasters Flat elementary theme to be completed and to be fully incorporated into Enlightenment. So today I am happy to announce the release of bodhi-6.1.0-e25_beta.iso. You can find it at my BodhiDev SourceForge page. This ISO is for users who want or prefer enlightenment or simply wish to 'check it out.' There have always been some Bodhi users who prefer to run 'pure enlightenment' on Bodhi and this release gives them an easy way to do it. This does not mean we are switching to enlightenment and ditching moksha any time soon if ever. Moksha is still our main interest. New Bodhi 6.1 releases featuring Moksha will follow as soon as I can find time to make them. The iso features a completely unmodified e25.1 with no specific Bodhi customizations, but it does include the old enlightenment theme as well as the new flat one by raster. No bodhi background or anything, everything is default enlightenment, theme icons and so on. It is fully up to the user to set up and customize however you wish. The iso also features a new efl version, efl 1.26.1. The python bindings for this are found in the repo and all py-efl apps in the repo can be installed and should work as well as they have been working. Note however I have not tested any of these apps against the new EFL.
The efl apps evisum, ephoto, terminology, rage have been updated and are preinstalled: - terminology and rage are the latest releases
- ephoto is the latest ephoto code in e-git but patched by me to make it work properly with file managers
- evisum is the development version from e-git
Note:
This is a beta release and nothing has been changed in the ubiquity-slideshow or the quick start. So those still refer to moksha. There is a collection of enlightenment modules in the repo that can be installed and used. apt search enlightenment-module* There is no need to install econnman for networking. This ISO is using network manager. You should add Network to the startup apps and add a system-tray somewhere on your desktop (load the module first). You are free to install connman and use it naturally. Officially we do not support enlightenment and for support I recommend using the official enlightenment support channels, either IRC or the enlightenment mailing list. Unofficially we will answer simple questions here or in our discord channel. Just be aware that most of our user use Moksha and may not know much about the new features of enlightenment. And our developers focus fully on Moksha and other Bodhi projects, we neither know alot about enlightenment as it is now nor do we have the time to debug whatever issues you may find. Release Notes:

I for sure find this useful. It will be great for adventurous forum users and for those that prefer pure e. For the rest of us a good opportunity to appreciate one more time moksha

Network is finally back... and Bodhi Linux 6.1 Enlightenment installed! This installation (on real hardware) went off without a hitch. Nice one ylee
Things I like, in no particular order...
Latest and greatest Enlightenment binaries (0.25.1)
E Screen Setup (much better than arandr) Arc-Dark gtk themes installed by default Papirus icon themes installed by default too
EnlightenmentClassic theme available Hibernate is greyed out in the System Controls (as it should be)
Stranger things...
Linux-oem kernel? Wayland Desktop Shell showing in Modules Settings > Look (load it and say hello to a nice Guru Meditation error...) Vanilla Enlightenment lacks personality (I know: "no Bodhi background or anything..." for now)

Wayland Desktop Shell showing in Modules Settings > Look (load it and say hello to a nice Guru Meditation error...) I'm downloading now (already tried e25 in VM on ubu from your script), in particular to test wayland on hardware (as I can't do that with Moksha). So wondering what you mean about wayland desktop shell stuff? Hibernate is greyed out in the System Controls (as it should) Why is hibernate being greyed out a good thing? Of the four machines I have, one of them is hibernated most of the time as its in a back room for occasional use... but I always leave it hibernated so I can bring it up fairly quickly....

Thanks Yes I noticed the Wayland Desktop Shell. I am unsure what exactly this module does. e25 was packaged with wayland support however and I do install the wayland session desktop file. Does e25 installed via your esteem script show the Wayland Desktop Shell module in the module settings? if not why not? Aside from hacking the code how can I disable this (Not display it here) for xorg sessions. Presumably it would work on a wayland session. I have not decided on the kernel version and the Linux-oem kernel is the most recent kernel in ubuntus 20.04 repos i think. I was feeling experimental and installed it and left it installed. Do you anticipate any issues with this kernel? Do you think I should go back to the ubuntu 20.04 default kernel version. And i agree Vanilla Enlightenment lacks personality. For the final release I could create a Bodhi profile as we did in the e17 days and still do in the moksha code base. But to fully support it would require some changes to the e25 code. These changes could either be minor like we did in moksha releases 5.1 or below or major like what I do now in BL6.0. In BL6.0 I make an attempt to honor the language and keyboard settings one picks in Ubiquity (the installer). Enlightenment ignores the "Debian" way of doing this and I made some major changes to e_wizard to support it. I would prefer a minor change as I really do not want to alter e25 MUCH. An alternative approach would be to dump the e and elementary settings in /etc/skel so that a new user would automatically have the look I decided upon. This is not ideal as deleting the ~./.e and ./elementary folders would not restore the desktop back to the way it was when installed. The user would end up with the Vanilla Enlightenment look. But one major issue with creating a Bodhi Profile is the lack of suitable e25/elementary themes. Minor issues include deciding or creating a background picking suitable icons to match the elm theme and so on. Do you know of any suitable themes? Or have any suggestions?

enigma9o7 Sorry, I didn't realised that a wayland session were actually available. I thought it was some kind of leftover from the ISO build process. About hibernate, this functionality is disabled by default in Ubuntu, but is not greyed out in Moksha - as it should be.

Hmmm yeah I just tried and realized wayland not available, so a little disappointed as thats the thing I wanted to play with most. Wayland does work from your script (I always use option 4 when I update) but I've only used it in VM, and I don't get the full hardware acceleration stuff I would get natively, in particular I wanted to try it with noveau and nvidia driver and test waydroid, so thought this would be an easier way. But I logged out of the live session back to login manager and no other session available, and now read that ylee's reply that he removed it on purpose. (I was going to ask here if it would be available after installation, but no need to ask now;))
I didnt know hibernate was disabled by default in ubuntu. Its not disabled on BL6 legacy beta (which is debian based) which is what I'm running on the computer I leave hibernated most of the time....

E as a wayland compositor is indeed available if you have installed Bodhi Enlightenment on real hardware. Just switch to a tty, log in and type enlightenment_start
Light on!

For the record the wayland desktop shell doesn’t appear in the module settings in the E25 I built on bullseye. There is a wayland-scanner, that I found with evrything, no idea what that is (yet) but yeah….

I was gonna say that. LightDm does not support wayland sessions. This is also working for me on a virtual Box VM.

Nothing wrong whith the wayland module, it is at the right place. I just didn't realize that wayland were available (silly me).
About the kernel, I was a little surprised to see an OEM kernel shipping with Bodhi, but why not?

Indeed it worked to start wayland session that way, even from live, so thanks much!
Some things didnt work at all that way... like chromium browser... and other things were glitchy... like focus, and mouse cursor.... but I was indeed able to play with it as I hoped and see for myself!

Ylee thank you, thank you , thank you.... and so on ('till a million). I've been very busy with stuff lately and haven't read BL forum in the last few days. Then this night (~2AM) I read this wonderful-wonderful news. Of course I had to install it. Tried Live and then a VM (from which I'm writing this post). I could say that Ylee made my night! This year is already better as I anticipated. The size of this ISO was a bit of a surprise for me; It's possible the previous alpha was similarly-sized?! Is it because of the new kernel or was stuff not removed form the Ubuntu-base used? I don't mind the size.. I'm just curious. Thank you again Ylee! P.S. I just gave my first "like" to a post... ever.

I updated efl to 1.26 and installed enlightenment. I did update the kernel, unsure how much of a change that made. I removed a few things not needed by e25 as well as thunar and leafpad. I installed a few more EFL apps including rage. Rage pulls in some video related stuff, but I installed it with --no-install-recommends so it would not pull in a ton of stuff. The last ISO was 1.1G this one I think is 1.4. I could make the ISO smaller but I am not sure that is worth the effort. The new efl has some new dependencies as does e25.

Thank you, ylee - we appreciate your efforts greatly. Regarding the ISO size - I would think since we are beyond the days of fitting on a CD but well within DVD size and even fairly small capacity thumb drives that the size would not matter yet. That's still a small footprint.
