That's cool that linux runs benchmark tests faster than windows. Not super duper surprising tho. I'm curious about the Intel distro they mention too....
I've read good things about the android subsystem, and that's the coolest feature I've heard about win11. In fact the coolest feature I've heard about win10 that I'll wanna try if I ever have a windows system is their linux subsystem.

Clear linux uses flatpacks for software. If i was not so much distro loyal to bodhi i would for sure give it a thorough try on my desktop. Gnome and flatpacks are not of my taste, another reason to hold my horses.

As an experiment yes. But not going to change something that i am happy with. Plus i really like consistency on all of my machines. Moksha defaults as it is designed by our devs. Not a slight change. It seems that performance made me choose bl but now i also appreciate the looks of the default theme. In such a degree that i do not care that clear linux is faster in benchmarks...The fact that i search so much for a good de and distro is because i feel it is like choosing a language in order to solve a particular problem. Good to always know what is out there but not going to change as long as my problem is solved. (de and os stability and looks that i really like-perhaps i am too old fashioned but i do not like ie the macos like dock in the center that almost everyone uses nowadays). So i came for performance and stability back then when the os was dark black grey themed. But now it looks great too. What else could one ask for more? Apart from meeting community in person which would make me extremely happy.

I'm trying to get my family to switch to Linux, but they are reluctant. They don't want to learn anything new and Linux still has reputation that you need to know so many commands in the terminal. With Win 11, many people are going to be forced to buy new computers. Win 10 loses support in 4 years, so I told them they have 4 years to play around. Then it will be time to get more serious about privacy and saving money

I do not know the case with steam valve i was never a gamer myself Great article, made me smile. The thing is, their needs are very basic. Just some web browsing, email, looking at photos. I do a lot more than they do with sound editing and occasional video editing. I think MS has successfully social engineered people to fear change and to just "accept things the way they are".

Perhaps a game for the kids? A challenge? If you can survive one week with ie like suggested zorinos which is close to win 7 looks then a gift awaits you... And what i have tried and worked is create desktop shortcuts for firefox and most few used programs. Mint was a distro that was also accepted without complaints. Mate xfce or cinnamon were all good again no complaints. I can easily convince win users to try linux. What i cannot do is convince experienced linux users try bl 6 but i can understand them. Many do not like ubuntu and use ie artix, are early adopters and some others behave like your family sort of. They refuse to try anything else than stock ubuntu. And the usual tease i often hear whenever we talk about any os or distro is how much time will pass till i mention bl

I will need to take over an external drive at some point to provide a demonstration. Linux Mint with Cinnamon would be the best choice IMO for them. I have installed over 20 Linux distros, mostly for testing purposes and I can understand why some would not want to leave Ubuntu. However, I do think Mint, Bodhi and Peppermint are much better Ubuntu versions for the typical user. Ubuntu default with GNOME presents a whole other learning curve and there's the amount of telemetry Canonical collects which should rub privacy-oriented users the wrong way. Why bother leaving MS if the collection of Ubuntu data doesn't bother someone. Then there's the whole Snap issue that some Ubuntu users (and others) haven't bothered to look at.

Yes thats true. I have tried so many Distros too and there were only a few that impressed me. Mint is not bad, true, but ... hmm... i cant say why Mint doesnt catched me. But there is another Distro, that keeps me having an eye on it. Emmabuntü Linux. It has somthing... . So my favorite are (right now) : 1) Bodhi Beta Enlightend ..and a bit...
2) Emmabuntü ( what a strange name for a OS ) ;-)
