In this case I use to run live session from USB, install boot-repair and do the recommended procedure: help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-RepairI am sure there is a better solution but I know this one. Good luck Stefan

I am very sure. I always specify my drives in advanced mode.

That error I got when I did not have the Fat32 partition I did UEFI installation Manual need. - Partition EFI 512Mb - Partition FAT32 512Mb
Only if it is manual.
The normal installer will create the necessary partitions.

It's perfectly fine to do that, if there is another boot loader present already.

I am trying it with encrypted partitions. Its rough mostly because it seems like I did it years ago with Fedora no problem but this is a 2 terabyte drive,
I just decided that I will try encrypting everything but my /mnt/data. I'll do that later. Oh and doing it with the --debug flag too.

When you use the debug flags and if it does not work, we need the log files after the install fails:
/var/log/syslog /var/log/partman /var/log/installer

I seems that formatting or mounting a encrypted / or swap is what is failing. One or both things have happened at different point. I have used the root sector of the drive, and I have specified the / partition. Both have failed. This may be a Ubuntu proper issue. I now believe that both Peppermint and Bodhi have failed in the last few weeks in this way on this EUFI system. Regards

I installed encrypted as a whole drive. I don't like it as is but does seem to be with Ubuntu proper. I especially wanted a separate /mnt/dropbox and /mnt/data. Anyway I am glad to have it booted up.
