I am a new user to Bodhi. I use Linux on older laptops. I have this Lenovo 100s with 32GB eMMC. Bodhi is the only distro that is working. The only thing that is not working is the sound. Anyone here who has experience with this laptop running Bodhi?
Thank you

Hi frankt, welcome to the forums.
Does the sounds work through headphones? And can you post the output of so we can see some info on your hardware. Thanks.

Hello frankt
Check you sound settings via pavucontrol. You can find it under the mixer gadget on the shelf in settings button. You can have muted sound or badly selected sound output. Settings screenshots would be fine to have for better support.

You have two audio cards. The intel one should just work. The rt5640 presents problems in many distros. It looks like your driver is installed. This is a bit of a long shot but could you try

Follow Admins advice or go to input devices under pavucontrol and select the different card.

This is a bit of a long shot but could you try Well it was a nice try but didn't work. The sound icon on the taskbar just disappeared. I don't like to give up but my experience with working on Linux is not the best. Lenovo Ideapad 100s is well known for not working well with any Linux distro. Some have success with Lubuntu (Guides with a fix for the sound issue). I don't like Lubuntu though.

Have you tried the waiter’s suggestion?
Bodhi actually uses a stripped down lubuntu as a base, so there is hope if that’s the case.

pactl list sinks | egrep -i 'volume|mute' can help you check if volumes are set low or anything is muted.

Yes I did checked all options (VLC, Sound Control setting and Keyboard) if the sound was muted.

Just to rule stuff out, can you select the intel card and check if sound comes out of headphones, or you see a level.

See photo in the link (no choices beyond what you see on the output sound settings):

I’m surprised the intel doesn’t turn up on options. I’ve heard that there are some bios settings to do with hdmi Which might be worth checking out, But it seems your drivers are installed so I’m a bit baffled.🤔

Thank you for sharing info about AlsaMixer. I didn't know about it. Sadly I see that Bodhi is not supporting the Intel sound card on Lenovo 100s. You can see the options under F6 in the attached picture. No controls for Intel sound card.
