About a week or so ago I took ran updates on my main bodhi 5.1 laptop, and ever since then I've had a few weird glitches, finally narrowed it down to picom I guess, cuz if I close it, no more issues.
For one, I have this thin black horizontal line from left to right a few cm up from the bottom. Always, on top of everything.
I also use a 3rd party dock called plank, which I have stuck to the bottom and has always stayed there. Now sometimes it moves itself up about 32 pixels, what I assume is the height of invisible shelf that is behind it that is set to above everything, and is in fact empty and the only reason I have it is to prevent maximized windows opening over plank dock, since moksha seemed to ignore it and just leave it there regardless of what its doing. Still trying to determine what causes it and what fixes it, cuz it moves back and forth.
Conky gets a line around it too. Used to be transparent background no border.
I just tried to take a screenshot, and when the now/delayed dialog appeared the dock also returned to bottom, but the horizontal line on top (as well as the conky outline) are captured:
This line right here

What packages were updated? This problem did not occur until after the updates?

Just updated now I have the line around conky also. I've been playing with conkyrc and compton.conf since but to no avail.

I don't use conky, it's the border of the theme. I try with Crtl + alt + w window >Border> borderless

Unfortunately cannot ctrl-alt-w on conky, I assume cuz it puts itself as part of the background.
I'm really glad this is not just me tho.
I didn't pay attention to which packages updated. Is there a way to check that history? If not, is there something I can install that can keep a record of that moving forward?

When I unload the comptonmod module conky loses transparency but the line is still there so it can't be (I'm assuming) in picom (compton). Either there's a conky setting that now needs to be changed or a window border than will not go away.

What fix do you see there for conky? I saw the bit about "change own_window_type normal to own_window_type desktop" but I didnt have an own_window_type set anyway, and when I tried desktop conky disappeared completely. So doesnt seem like much of a fix?
For me the line around conky (and the line across my desktop) go away when picom is not loaded, or becomes part of the background, either way not visible anymore. So I think perhaps you solved a different issue I was never having in the first place, unless yours also just started happening in past few weeks after an update too.
Here's another hint. If I put my mouse pointer on that conky border, or on the horizontal line thru my screen the cursor does its green square box thing about wanting to resize. It says that line below is 1920x112 if I click on it and try to resize it. So I guess it sits at 112 pixels up from the bottom of my screen.
And conky actually lets me resize that border and it moves the text to the left! wtheck? that's new.

If you don't set a type conky defaults to type normal anyways. Then setting it to type desktop and setting own window transparency to no are both different than the settings I had when I was getting the line around conky. That article I linked said ubuntu 20.04 has known issues with themes and widgets which I imagine just extended over to conky. I'm not an expert by any means but just linking what worked for me.

Did this start happening for you after a recent update or not?
And to be clear, I'm using Bodhi 5.1 which is ubuntu 18.04 based.

Interesting. I'm using (or was) the 6 beta but updated and that's when conky got it's border. So it did start after a recent update but I'm not using 18.04. Probably more people will weight in as more people update.

I've now been dealing with this line thru my screen for weeks. I hate it. I want it gone. I have no idea how to get rid of it besides disabling picom. I dont care about the conky one nearly as much cuz I only see that when desktop is showing. But this horizontal line is very annoying.

Very easy to solve Look up compton.conf file in /usr folder and add plank to shadow-exclude list. i.imgur.com/q8pDVvf.pngStefan EDIT in 64b Bodhi: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/enlightenment/modules/comptonmod/compton.conf

I didnt know it was related to plank dock, I had no idea why that line appeared. I've been using both plank and picom (and conky) quite a while (before picom was even in bodhi repo i built it from source) and this happened all by itself.
Regardless, I don't have a compton.conf (or picom.conf) so apparently it has to do with picom changing defaults. There's always so many things updating at once I don't pay close enough attention and dunno what actually caused this in the first place.

I still have this line at the bottom of my screen btw. no idea how to get rid of it. I also still have the border around conky, but I dont care so much about that as I dont look at my desktop much.
I can, for now, ignore all the mismatched tray icons, i spent months trying to solve that and gave up and just do my best to ignore that horrible mess.... but I am really tired of the line and tired of ignoring it and hoping an update fixes it... been months and still here... maybe not a bodhi problem, but i dunno how to fix it, and was caused by an update.
