Hello Everyone!
I am new to Bodhi Linux and recently I made the decision to ditch Windows completely. After testing different ditros Bodhi Linux 5.1.0 caught my attention and I really like it so far. I am having this problem randomly. Sometimes when I reboot or turn on/off the computer it freezes. Most of the time this happens at the splash-screen. I have to switch it off by pressing the power button.
Any idea what might be the problem? Thanks in advance. My specs:

I have no idea at all. I presume you are using moksha and not enlightenment. What Moksha theme are you using?
Is there any information in relevant log files? Or systemd journal?
If not then there is one more thing you can try. Install moksha-debug. Log out and now when you log back in choose the option Moksha (Logging enabled) instead of the usual Moksha option. If you always log in with this Moksha will create a log file that may be of some use in /tmp. It's name will be Moksha-log plus a date and time stamp and so in. It should be obvious which is the log file. Next time this happens upload that file to pastebin or something and link to it here.
Now that is a long shot, but if something weird is happening to moksha I should be able to see it in that log file.
EDIT: Be sure moksha-dbg is installed or the log file will not be particularly useful.

I was able to finally make a full transition to Linux after years of dabbling with various distros, thanks to Bodhi. Glad to hear you are digging it so far! Also, nice work on posting your system specs/stats. Just for clarification - it sounds like the freeze occurs at the splash screen as Bodhi is shutting down? Or is it after your system POSTs and it beginning to boot? Not that I have expertise, but it sounds like it likely is occurring during the shutting down sequence - curious if something is not releasing and hanging?

Any idea what might be the problem? Thanks in advance. I had same issue on a legacy AMD690G-based PC. Radeon driver doesn't have HDMI audio support for its chip, therefore ALSA snd_hda_intel driver causes timeout and crashes on power-off action. Try this command to check your system:

I will try to do a fresh installation of Bodhi Linux and see if the problem persists. Then I will try your suggestion.

Now the freezing happens sometimes as Bodhi is shutting down, sometimes at the beginning after the reboot at the spalsh screen, 'the rotating circle around the leaf' just stops and freezes.

I started on SuSE 6.x. Linux certainly has evolved and it's getting better and better all the time (thanks people involved esp. Bodhi Team!).
Interesting on the issue occurring during boot. That I have not experienced. I do have a system that hangs when I power down, possibly similar to yours. That particular system seems to hang regardless of version of Bodhi. I have not tried other operating systems (outside of FreeNAS, a different type of beast), so I do not really have a point of reference for that, though I have tried many version of Bodhi over the years. That system is fairly old and has been repurposed so many times it is silly. - also, everything seems to be sitting at halt when the system "hangs", so I just power it off manually.
That said, the same system does display some errors during boot shortly after post - never long enough for me to catch much and the system appears to boot just fine. Bodhi is sitting on a SSD and boots really quickly after the error. This, I figured, was related to the converse where my system would hang when powering down (what comes up, must come down). I had a post regarding this on the old Bodhi Linux Forum - the errors appeared to be system specific and frankly just didn't bother me. Something with an ACPI script...
I really don't know much beyond fairly broad strokes as to how Linux boots, though I do understand the sequence. I know less about how processes release. I would offer a screenshot of the error during my boot, but I do not think it would help (unless someone thinks it helpful.). I'm not positive, but I suspect if you watch the processes during powering down/up and or check system logs there may be some clues. Unfortunately, that's about all the help I may offer.

Try this command to check your system: Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the command and did not get any output message. I realised today that when I power off manually the next time I turn on the system everything works well appart for the WIFI that is not working at all, I have to reboot again and then the WIFI works. Probably there is a problem with the WIFI driver or hardware I don't know. Now that I am thinking about it I had this problem when I installed Bodhi Linux from a USB after the installation I rebooted and the WIFI was not working I had to reboot one more time and then the WIFI worked. Strange...

spalsh screen, 'the rotating circle around the leaf' just stops and freezes. You can hit Esc to hide that, and see what's causing it to freeze.
Usually during shutdown its something that has to count to 90. It seems to be a popular number.
At startup dunno, but you won't see anything staring at the rotating circle around the leaf. Besides hitting Esc key, you can also remove the word 'splash' in grub setup so you don't have to hit Esc every time.

To be clear, I was suggesting doing it before it happens. If its really frozen it may not be responsive, not sure. Just any time you see splash hit esc to get rid of it.

Hello everyone! Thank you for all your suggestions!
So during the weekend I installed Bodhi Linux 2 times to see if I the problem persisted and to understand better when this happens.
So the different situation when the computer freezes are:
1.after installing Bodhi from a live USB I click on reboot now. The system freezes right there. The shut down sequence doesn't even start.
2. After I shut down manually I turn on again. Everything looks fine I log in. The WiFi is not working. I have to reboot again and this time everything works. Point 1 and 2 happened both times that I installed Bodhi.
3.After using the computer I turned it off. The power off sequence started but then the system hangs on a black screen for several minutes. After that I got a message on the screen saying:
INFO: task playmouthd: 10047 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
Tainted: P W OE 4.15.00-88-generic #88-Ubuntu
"echo 0 > proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message.
I hope this helps a little bit to understand the problem.
Ps.At some point I was thinking maybe the problem was happening when I had a USB attached to my computer but point 3 happened when I didn't have anything attached to the computer.

Maybe not relevant but
1. Have you checked the ISO file md5 checksum? Is ISO OK? 2. What method did you use to create a booting USB? Recommended is rufus application under Window with dd option enabled.

I checked the ISO file md5 checksum and is ok.
I used Etcher on Bodhi linux to create the booting USB.

Thanks to your suggestion I was able to see what is going on behind the splash-screen. I took a screen shot. 1. the first picture is when I tried to Power off the computer. The sequence stared and then froze for a few minutes on a black screen after that I got this message on the screen 2. the second screen shot is after I rebooted the computer that froze at the splash scree but I hit the esc. key as you suggested.
