In the pre-alpha-6 thread, you recommended plank to me.
Sorry, plank doesn't work. I cannot add any apps to the plank dock and there's no zoom effect on mouse over events. I also tried latte, but since latte is meant for KDE, installing it on Bodhi appeared to be pointless in the end.
Do you know how to disable the asterisks in the terminal, when entering the password? Editing the 0pwfeedback file doesn't work, because there is no such a file in /etc/sudoers.d/
I forgot to tell you, that I was able to install the bodhi-apppack. I opened the old apppack from 5.1 with an archive manager, found a file with the list of the apps and was able to install almost all of them using the terminal, just as you told me the other day. I just had to remove ephoto and chromium-browser from that list, but everything else did install fine.
snugbug I moved you post here to keep bl6 issues uncluttered, the developers are already on top of the engage problem you reported.
As to apppack, I've made a script to simulate that too : although sounds like you're already set. The main problem is files will all be associated with new apps, so you'll probably want to set text back to leafpad and images back to ephoto, unless you want to wait long time for openoffice to open a text file or gimp to open a photo you just wanted to look at or resize. Bodhi 6 Apppack Thread
I use plank as primary launcher and works fine for bodhi, except cannot use it to close/minimize/maximize.
For zoom effect, you need a compositor tho, same for rounded corners in themes (or transparency in terminology or conky). If you want that I recommend picom.
sudo apt install picom Run that from accessories before plank, or put them both in startup apps if you decide you want them started next time too.
I'm not sure why you cannot add apps. All I do is right click on the icon and check "keep in dock", and then it stays even when app closed. What did you try?
As to using it, a few hints: apps that are open have a dot below them, if you have more than one dot its cuz more than one copy is open. Use middle click to launch a second copy of same app (i.e. two file manager or terminal windows at once). If two or more copies are already open and you want to switch to a specific one, use right click.
Those screenshots are from my current bodhi 5 machine and been using plank quite a while, but I have also tested on bl6 and seems working to me (including latest beta right now to make sure nothing broke) :
Lastly, I have never seen asterisks in the terminal when entering password, is this in regards to plank? sudo doesnt show asterisks... I can't think of anywhere I've seen asterisks...
edit: doh, sudo does show asterisks. i'd never noticed that. nope dunno how.
Yes, speaking about the asterisks, I only mean the sudo password and it only affects Bodhi 6. I'd rather like to have no feedback of the password at all.
On the web, there's some information about a file called 0pwfeedback in /etc/sudoers.d/, but following these guides, I'm still not able to create or edit that file to make the asterisks disappear.
As to plank, now, I think, I understand. You don't drag&drop apps to the dock, but you open the wanted ones, they appear in the dock and then you can choose to keep them in there. Well, plank is not as good as engage, but I think, I can live with it until engage will have been fixed.
Guess, I'm getting closer to a pretty nice working system, even with Bodhi being still in beta state. I have enabled the MokshaGreen theme and I'm currently adding some more wallpapers tochoose from, but I'd like to be able to get back to the default one of MokshaGreen. It's just that I don't know how to find it without knowing the file name or file type. Unfortunately, the wallpaper dialog doesn't provide any information about the default file. Do you perhaps know that file name? It's probably somewhere inside the MokshaGreen folder of the themes, isn't it?

I don't know the filename (I bet its in development repository on github tho), but I know how to use that wallpaper.
Settings Panel / (Look) / Theme / Advanced
pick background on the left, the one you want on the right
Assign
Apply
If it's not working, double check your wallpaper is set to "use theme wallpaper" under Wallaper on the same same settings panel tab.
To get a almost 80 bodhi wallpapers added to to system wallpapers (<40mb)
sudo apt install bodhi-background-*now there's an appropriate use of asterik! I also dont need in terminal, if you cant type your own password blind pick another password, but I bet that was by ubuntu user request.
Another cool trick ylee added to thunar for bodhi 6; you can right click an image file and set to wallpaper, instead of doing it from wallpaper settings. I haven't tried that myself yet tho.
I know how to choose another wallpaper, but I wonder, how can I find the default one for MokshaGreen again?
You suggested picom to me, in addition to plank, but I cannot add picom to the startup apps. I tried to create a personal app starter, but picom only works when I start it manually.

I already answered how to set to background from any theme in previous message, unless I misunderstand the question and you're asking something different?

I dunno why you cannot add it to startup apps. What does that even mean? It's like when you said you can't add something to plank dock, but in fact you can. It would make sense if you mention what you tried, what you expected to happen, and what actually happened when describing issues. And try not to say "I can't" when you actually mean "I don't know how." Can't implies something is broken or impossible, which I don't think applies to this situation either.
I just tested on same VM I recorded video earlier... works fine....
I tried to create a personal app starter, but picom only works when I start it manually.
A "personal application launcher" is bodhi's unique term for creating a .desktop file, and is only needed if one doesn't already exist. Anything in your applications menu (including picom) already has a desktop file. That being said, if you made another one for picom, it should have worked too. So you're gonna have to go into more detail about your problems.
Sorry, about picom. I just didn't find it on the first run, because I missed the fact that file names with small letters are at the end of the list.
As for the wallpapers, I have the default one for MokshaGreen, some kind of Japanese garden with a wooden bridge. Moving to another wallpaper is no problem, but when I decide to return to that Japanese garden some day, I don't know how to find it again, because I don't know its file name and its location.

You dont need it. Its part of the theme. It is encoded inside the mokshaarcgreen edj file for the theme itself, moksha themes are all packed into one file, all the images, everything. So unless you want to get it from the developer github like I mentioned before, just set wallpaper to use from theme and select the background from theme/advanced as described.
I've chosen a wallpaper of the background pack, and tried to return to the default one of the MokshaGreen theme. I don't get it back, the wallpaper is now the other one, no matter what theme I choose. That's exactly what I wanted to avoid. Now, I got no idea how to get that beautiful garden back.
Is wallpaper set to "use theme wallpaper"? Is theme background assigned to MokshaArcGreen? Did you apply? If yes to all those, try restarting moksha, sometimes is glitches: start (click on desktop)/about os/restart moksha.
If no, I can't explain it any better. Just watch the video again and read my words again and try again until the answers are all yes.
I got the garden back. In the wallpaper dialog, I finally found the option "Use Theme Wallpaper". Enabling that one solved the problem. Thank you! Is it possible to make this option a bit more obvious? If you don't know what to look for, you can easily miss that option in its small space right below the title bar.
That's why I said "If it's not working, double check your wallpaper is set to "use theme wallpaper" under Wallaper on the same same settings panel tab." the first time I told you. And when I quoted it. Because I do agree, it is not obvious. But most things in Moksha aren't.
Anyways anything is possible, but would require modfiying either theme or moksha, which is above my level, but if you want to learn, Bodhi is always looking for new efl programmers.
snugbug also, if you want to re-bring that *** on sudo passowrd issue up in the bl6 thread, please do so, I moved the whole message here to avoid cluttering bl6 beta thread with stuff about plank dock which isnt even meant for moksha (which turned out to be a good idea) and cuz you directected it at me, but as a result stole the other comment from where it belongs! If the ***'s on password matter to you, since it is a new bodhi 6 thing that ylee could probably change before final release if he wanted to, worth mentioning again in there. he may not have noticed it changed like me. or he may have done it on purpose. It could be a new version of sudo It could be a configuration option. dunno.
Ok, so, ylee is to be adressed about the asterisks for the password? Well, let's see what it will be like in the final of Bodhi 6. I just thought, maybe there's an inofficial method of hiding the asterisks, to be used until the final is out.
As for plank, it is working fine now. The only problem that's left is that it doesn't auto hide properly. "Hide automatically" is ok, but "intelligent hiding", "hide from maximized windows", "hide from all windows" and "hide from active windows" are not working. I think, that's ok until the final of Bodhi 6 will be out.
My entire attempt of installing Bodhi 6 is nothing more than to find out how close I can get to a working system with the beta, that's currently available, anyways, and maybe to report what issues I'm running into, because I'm assuming, you and the other developers might be interested in that kind of information.
Ya for sure, and thats exactly the kinda feedback we need. I don't think ylee reads every message on every thread etc or he wouldn't have any free time at all, I think he spends most of his free time on Bodhi development already, especially lately I think its more like full time +overtime. Bodhi Team is small, two primary developers who work on moksha itself, the rest of the team like me are mainly just active users helping out in some way, i.e. running the forum or the website, hippytaff has been learning about making themes, i've been learning about icon sets (both sound simple but are actually super complicated if you dont know how things work already), test early releases and offer suggestions, answer support questions on forum and discord, etc. But ylee is lead developer and does all the packaging for bodhi repositories (including building whatever we need from upstream enlightenment) and preparing the whole distro starting from ubuntu base removing/added whats needed to make it into bodhi and preparing the ISO. the_waiter mainly works on moksha fixes and improvements and helps ylee with other development tasks. So basically, if ylee didnt notice your message, he may not have even noticed those asteriks, and this is the kinda thing he would be the one to make the decision on.
I sometimes talk wayyyyy to mucha bout something simple. My only concern was that he might not have noticed your message cuz I stole it here, and I wanted to make sure he saw it, thats why its good to have community members test the betas, find these little details (and possible big details) that might have been overlooked.
Oh and on plank, I dont use auto hide and just confirmed I cant make it work either. I suspect its the same reason the right-click close (and click to minimize) dont work, it isnt interacting with moksha window manager at all. It can open apps and bring them to foreground, but thats all it can do (under moksha, other functions work fine on major desktops). The reason I personally like it better than engage is the combined ibar+taskbar into one, plus the ability to set background size/corners/color/transparency is nice too once you decide to open one of those theme files and see how easy it is. Since I dont just hide or zoom, I dont see much different between engage and shelf, other than the ability to select one from another theme than main shelf, whereas all shelves currently have to be from the same theme. Sure, by default it has icons in taskbar, but that's just a setting for regular tasks module. There is one theme that has reflective engage looks kinda cool tho, have that on my athlon right now actually that's running an earlier team only beta version..... something one can't do with any of the standard shelves we have now. But coincidentally enough I've been looking into this xlunch launcher for it that I saw in slax...
