There it is in the title. There's the "recent posts" button, and I guess it's good enough for the time being (there not being too many posts) but evtl. it would be good to be able to draw an exact line since my last visit.

There is a ‘recent posts’ button On the main page. I use that to show new posts in their threads. Threads with New/unread posts will appear at the top of the list, if there are any. I hope that helps

It does not provide the exact functionality.
Another question is a button to show all threads I posted to. Does that exist? There's a "View this member's recent posts" link on my profile page but it's a little cumbersome to access and, again, does not provide the exact functionality.
I'm not demanding features, just asking if I missed the proper buttons somehow.

Haven't seen anything. Would be nice to have.
If the same thing, it would show new messages and when you go through the new messages, new messgaes list gets smaller as you read them, till nothing shows.

That functionality isn’t available by default, but if there is a way with css etc I’ll try and build one.

There is a "[NEW] Participated" button near the top right, right under "Welcome $user. Logout" . If there's no unread & participated posts anymore, it changes to "Participated" only.
It answers my 2nd question at least.

Yeah, that’s one way to do it. Proboards is fairly flexible, but some things are locked down/hard coded, so I don’t have any way to change them. Another example of this is when a user deletes their profile, there is no way to change the name ‘deleted user’ to anything else. Deleted user implies they were deleted by Admin/mods, I’d prefer it if it were possible to distinguish between the two so that there is a visible difference between those who choose to delete their profiles and those that are deleted by staff. There is much discussion on this and other restrictions on the proboards forums.
The trade off is, we don’t have to worry about data protection laws, because proboards take care of that, but we are restricted on certain functionalities, probably because of said data protection laws. Maybe in the future we can host our own forums and have total freedom, but for the time being we’re going to have to make do with the extensive yet limited options available to us.

we don’t have to worry about data protection No, but the user does: www.proboards.com/privacyRecommend reading, even diagonally. One has to submit to much, much more than is usual on forums. No doubt this is the reason for the age restriction. Illegal to cyberstalk people who are too young to consent. I am using this forum only with uMatrix blocking practically everything. The forum also completely blocks TOR (cloudflare "protection"). Sorry to harp on this, but you brought it up.

It was the best of the bunch, unless we host it ourselves and then we have to deal with all the legal shit, which I am not qualified at. So like I said the trade off is either this or no forums. Though I’ll keep looking for a better platform, or if you know of one that’d be cool. I’m not sure migrating just yet would be good for the community but once we’re established again I see no reason not to look for a more suitable one.

unless we host it ourselves and then we have to deal with all the legal shit You know I've said it before, but this is a much smaller problem than you seem to think it is. There's little I can recommend here; you need to roll up your sleeves and get into the topic, then you'll see that there's practically no danger of prosecution if your intent isn't profiting from user data, and relatively few central points need to be considered. After all, GDPR doesn't mean that you're "forbidden" to do "illegal" things, it's a regulation, not a law; and it's mostly about informing the user and giving them choice and control about their personal data. FWIW, phpbb seems to actively address these things in their releases. PS: searching GDPR related info in English brings up a lot of FUD!

I get your point, but I think we’ll probably stick with this for now.

I get your point, but I think we’ll probably stick with this for now. I've been Admin on another Proboards forum since 2005. Ok, it ain't as sexy as some other forums out there but they maintain the servers and even with ads, it's simple and it works, just like Bodhi. It's a very practical solution to a free(ish) forum.

My only real beef is ads, and we have the ad free cost covered for the time being, and yeah, it’s simple enough, and you can play around under the hood enough for what I think we need for now.

My only real beef is ads, and we have the ad free cost covered for the time being, and yeah, it’s simple enough, and you can play around under the hood enough for what I think we need for now. Agreed, ads can be are a nuisance but this is arguably offset by the fact Proboards do all the work.
What I do over on my other Proboards place is this: ask 11 regulars (+myself) to become site patrons and trump up 1 month of ad free each via PayPal for the year.
Being a patron does not grant you any demanding forum privileges or form a forum hierarchy clique though e.g. the right to demand some other user is kicked off etc. but of course you end up with 12 users who at least care about the prolonged existence of the forum ad-free. They usually pay me in December and then Proboards get the cash monthly from me / pay with a credit card and you get some loyalty points or in my case, free airport lounge entry (not that that is much use at the moment).
We have the 100,000 hits a month option and have never gone over that, it's more like 40,000 to 60,000 hits depending on external factors like Corona virus lockdown. That said, unlike here (I think) certain parts of the forum are only visible to registered users in order to limit the number of actual hits per month to keep it under the 100,000 Proboards limit, so ads don't return towards the end of the month. In the last 5 years this has only happened once. Honestly, I'd hate to think I was paying ad free for some Google Spider to come along a grab all the content - free and ad-free is of course great for everyone, but even the givers of free (like the folks giving up their time on this forum) have running costs to keep ads off for the good of all.
That said, there is always Facebook, no, did I just say that? Apologies!
