Štefan has been wanting our the icon and gtk theme folder names in our themes to be more consistent for a long time now. A few days ago he changed the Icons in the ArcGreen theme. I have placed his changes in the repos for BL5 and BL6. Now this means if you are using this Icon theme (as Bodhi uses by default in BL5 and our upcoming release BL6) and you do an update, as soon as Moksha restarts or the code needs those icons or you reboot you are not going to have these icons. This is unavoidable if we wish to maintain the consistency Štefan wants. So sorry for the inconvenience. This was less of an issue for BL6, in fact almost no issue ... probably due to EFL changes. But really apparent in BL5 either on hardware or desktop.
So to fix this issue, first update everything and then in the settings menu open the settings panel and go to the Look tab and click Application Theme. In the Application Theme Settings window that pops up click on the Icons tab and select the arcGreen icons now named MokshaArcGreen and click Apply. In theory if you now restart Moksha you should have your icons back.
It may also work to just change themes and then change them back.
Now in a 32 bit VM I noticed Moksha did not update all the icons, maybe 3 or so were not updated. A part of elf called efreet takes care of that and it has kinda been problematic for us over the years. So if that happens to you in time it will correct itself ... again in theory. But to force it to do so, delete the folder ~/.cache/efreet/
Notice .cache is a hidden folder. Now it is probably best to log out and log in. If the clipboard folder is missing restart Moksha.
Also note our lightdm theme uses these icon and the gtk theme from the ArcGreen theme, so be sure when you update moksha and the bodhi-theme-moksha-arcgreen package you also update the bodhi-lightdm-theme package.
Again sorry for the inconvenience and I hope I have packaged all these to Štefan satisfaction.

Confirmed, it just happened for me! I think I ran my updates yesterday so the effect isn't immediate. I had my menu icons set for moksha-arc-green and suddenly my menu was missing icons! All I had to do to fix was go into application icons and set moksha-arc-green again and all is back to normal.

Thank you so much for the immediate solution! :-) I'm really surprised to find this information already posted here before I've made up my slow mind "what to do now" (whether I should ask here or rather copy "my" icons from another bodhi machine which I have not updated yet...)
THANK YOU! BODHI IS THE BEST.

Hello there All was explained by ylee so I only wanted to say sorry for inconvenience as I am the person who caused it Anyway, the purpose was to have the same name schema for all themes I maintain. I made a little mistake in the past about arc green icon set called illogically arc-green-icons-GTK. Icons set has nothing to do with GTK as you prob know. Thus I wanted to rename set to MokshaArcGreen which is not confusing and matches moksha and GTK theme well. I think it is the best time before BL 6 release to repair it. We are very pedantic to have this release in good shape. Let's hope not many machines will be affected Stefan

I upgraded and went through the concomitant steps to get icons again. It was smooth as silk but... I must admit to a subtle disappointment that after "all that" the icons were still the same as ever.

Inside the package is the icon set called MokshaArcGreen-Icons but the name set defined in index.theme is MokshaArcGreen (this name you can see in Moksha preview dialog). If you upgraded the system, the theme should be available among themes.
Check /usr/share/icons folder

I'm not doing something right. I can't get the icons to work. I have tried other icon themes, and get only a few of them back. Duh. The closest selection I have is MokshaArcGreen-GTK.

I don't know for certain that this is related but after I upgraded and then got the icons back following the settings process, I just noticed yesterday (so a week after the upgrade) that all the icons in Ephoto are missing. The text (on hover) appears so it's not the end of the world but I wonder if there still might be some icons missing from the theme.

ephoto (and terminology) use the elementary settings. If I were in your position, I would check that there is only one theme set (I like MokshaGreen) and that icons are set (MokshaArcGreen look good to me). Note - after you exit elementary settings you must restart moksha (start/about os/restart moksha) or your previous moksha scale factor setting wont be used everywhere (until reboot).
To get to those settings, I go thru terminology (right click/settings/toolkit/launch elementary config) but it is also available in settings panel/preferences.

Hello Did you follow method Ylee explained obove? Stefan Yes, I did.
The icons folder is there... but so is the -gtk icons folder. I deleted the .cache folder as recommended and logged out and back in. Setting still has only the -gtk (v2)(v3) theme available.
I must be doing something wrong, but I have no idea what it is. Should I also delete the -gtk folder?
