On insertion a memory stick is automatically mounted to the mount point : /home/bodhi/SanDisk_U3_Cruzer_Micro_1
When I copy some file from the Desktop, say /home/bodhi/Desktop/!readme.txt to this memory stick I'm not allowed to do that. I know Linux is geared towards multiusers, so this has something to do with the permissions settings. The only user is ' bodhi' but the mount point is marked ' root'. I just want to be able to put anything in /home/bodhi/SanDisk_U3_Cruzer_Micro_1What needs to be changed once and for all, not each time the stick is reinserted? These commands don't do anything: sudo chmod 777 /home/bodhi/SanDisk_U3_Cruzer_Micro_1 sudo chmod a+rwx /home/bodhi/SanDisk_U3_Cruzer_Micro_1 ls -l still shows 'drwxr-xr-x' as the permissions.
[SOLVED]: In the /etc/fstab file I changed: UUID=8AF4-B1F0 /home/bodhi/SanDisk_U3_Cruzer_Micro_1 auto nosuid,nodev,nofail,x-gvfs-show 0 0
...into:
UUID=8AF4-B1F0 /home/bodhi/SanDisk_U3_Cruzer_Micro_1 auto nosuid,nodev,nofail,x-gvfs-show,uid=1000,gid=1000,fmask=0000,dmask=0000 0 0 And now it works!

I dont have this issue, but it may be because I dont use places to automount things? My usb drives appear in /media/username when I open pcmanfm.
For references, my settings panel --> files --> places
pcmanfm if i open it after plugging in slitaz usb drive, note the eject button thing there, I use that if I wanna safely eject.

/media/bodhi is the default and does work as expected, that I knew already.
But... I needed to move the mount point for the stick to the /home/bodhi directory because /media/bodhi is inaccessible from an FTP client with vsftpd as the FTP server setup on the system with Bodhi Linux. The FTP server was setup in such a way that the user can't access anything beyond the home directory to avoid messing things up. So, the question remains, how to make the contents at the moved mount point read AND write accessible to the user 'bodhi'?
The Eject button doesn't power-off, as described in another post.

I would cheat with a simlink to workaround ftp issue, for example
ln -s /media/bodhi ~/media
