Hi, with VMWare Workstation Player 16 I am using differernt Ubuntu based distros. After installing open-vm-tool and open-vm-desktop copy and paste between host and guest is working fine for all of them. But it doent't work after installing the vm tools on a Bodhi guest system (Host is Windows 10).
What could it be?

I would guess it has something to do with the kernel. What kernels are in the other versions of "Ubuntu" are you running? Depending on the version of Bodhi you are using it might have a really old kernel that won't be compatible with newer versions of VM Player.

I have only used virtualbox, but copy & pasting of text did not work between host and guest even when enabled bidirectional until I ran the latest virtualbox guest additions script on the bodhi guest. It reported there was a version already installed by distro and I should use that or uninstall it, but I ignored that and let it install the one from "insert guest additions cd image", then after reboot copy and paste works both ways. I tested this on bodhi legacy VMs with hwe kernel (5.40.64) and original 4.9.0.6 kernel, both running under bodhi standard hwe host, and this solved it for both. Maybe something similar in VMWare Workstation?

Same issue with Bodhi hwe and Kernel 5.4.0. VMWare supports open-vm-tools and on all guests version 11.0.5 is installed. But it just won't work with Bodhi. Other features like full screen mode and shared folders are working fine. It's just the copy and paste that will not work.

Try unloading the clipboard module see if that helps.

I use Vitualbox on BL5.1 and BL6.0 pre-alpha and Copy&Paste works very well with both. However there are a few steps you must be aware of to get all the capabilities VB has to offer - keeping in mind my host is linux - Mint to be precise. If your host is Windows I haven't a clue.
1.) The user (who you are logged in as) must me in the virtualbox user group. Add the user to a group via CLI or System settings for Users and Groups. 2.) The VirtualBox Extension Pack must be installed - it's in the synaptic package manager 3.) Mount the Guest Additions CD image and install. This is done by opening the Device tab and clicking "Insert Guest Additions CD image" depending on how your guest is configured you may have to open the VB Guest Additions CD in the file manager and click on one of the .sh files and then click on run to install the image manually. 4.) reboot
I like C&P for commands, Internet links etc. But for moving files and directories (say a pic for a background for example) between host/guest I like Warpinator.

Try unloading the clipboard module see if that helps. No effect, but thanks for the hint.

Seems to be a bug in the open-vm-tools under gnome(?). The workaround is (see github.com/vmware/open-vm-tools/issues/319): $ mkdir -p /var/run/vmblock-fuse $ vmware-vmblock-fuse -o subtype=vmware-vmblock,default_permissions,allow_other,nonempty /var/run/vmblock-fuse $ kill $(pgrep -f 'vmtoolsd -n vmusr') $ vmware-user-suid-wrapper
