Installed Bodi Linux on a 12-year old laptop, and I must say that this went smoother than expected.
I have only some minor issues with the system that I would like to fix, if possible:
1) When the laptop boots into Bodhi Linux the animated leaf-and-circle icon is shown vertically squeezed (or horizontally stretched), which doesn't look nice. How to adjust this? Or, even better, can this animated sequence be switched off altogether, as this is merely a waste of time anyway.
2) Before the desktop comes on, the superfluous NVIDIA logo is shown for about a second, but I would like to get rid of this as well.

You can use the noveau driver instead, but nividia often performs better. If it installed automatic for you with prop drivers on 12 year old laptop, probably nvidia-340 driver; I'm using that on couple machines.
1) It doesn't actaully take time real, if you hit Esc you'll see its just displaying that while the timer is going booting behind it. But yeah its possible to tweak that or disable it. I think to disable the logo complete is a grub option and one of the ones thats already there so easy to edit...
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
Find the line starting with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT and change `splash` to `nosplash` or if its nothere just add it in. Save the file and close the editor (CTRL-X)
sudo update-grub I think you can set the splash resolution with grub too, in that same cfg file, by setting the video mode; if you want this level of customization tho try searching generic ubuntu grub instructions; grub-customizer may be helpful if that config file looks scary...

After reading up on 'grub' I changed these lines: #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true GRUB_TIMEOUT=7 GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" Into:
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true GRUB_TIMEOUT=0 GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet" #GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
After this change only one unwanted line of text remains on startup but a series on shutdown...
If someone knows a way to get rid of this intimidating nonsense as well, this would be even better.
It seems the NVIDIA splash screen cannot be left out; the NVIDIA settings panel only shows very technical settings.
