Dear forists, I yesterday installed BL on my 2004 T42 and it is running well. As the fan is running on full speed all the time, I'd like to change the fan speed control. I ran sudo sensors-detectand got "no sensors detected".
running "sensors" yields a list with the fan speed and the temp on 4 sensors.
running "sudo pwmconfig" runs gets "pwm1_enable stuck to 2"
With a research I found the following commands
sudo rmmod thinkpad_acpi sudo modprobe thinpad_acpi fan_control=1 sudo sh -c 'echo 1 > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/device/pwm1_enable'which ran through without error messages. The path
You're using a T42 from 2004? That's neat because I'm using a T40 from the early 2000s, too! Regarding your fan issue: I do not have enough knowledge on this topic to be of any assistance at this time. Nevertheless, I have not encountered any noticeble issues operating Bodhi on a T40, and while I am not sure of the specific differences between a T42 and a T40, the machines do seem similar. So then, I'll check this thread later this evening to read any follow-up questions or suplemental information you or others have shared, and perhaps I can be of more assistance.
