I love the idea of a text based browser as it is so darn fast / I first used Lynx back in 1995, how fast was that for checking mails?
I have attempted to login to bodhilinux.boards.net using Links 2, I login and I get as far as Redirecting... and that's it, it flops at the final hurdle.
Username and password are correct, but is there something in the browser itself I need to do to get it over the final hurdle?
Any help appreciated.

Hello 37bodie,
Yes, you can login to this forum using the Links2 browser. I have done so numerous times. There are only three issues I've encountered using the Links2 Browser with this website. First, the field for typing messages is quite small so I often type in Leafpad and then copy into the message field in relevant Bodhi forum thread via Links2. Second, I have not found a way to successfully upload files, such as screenshot images, from Links2 into this forum. The inability to upload images is likely due a javascript issue. I assume this forum uses some sort of browser-side scripting language to upload files -- such as a javascript -- and since Links2 does not have javascript builtin, attachments cannot be added to messages. Third, and finally, copying text from the browser to an external program -- such as Leafpad -- cannot be done using common copy/paste shortcuts. Here, to copy and paste text from Links2 to an external text editor, do the following: - Highlight text you can to copy; - Access text editor; - Press the middle mouse button (which is likely the button with the scroll wheel); The process is simply: highlighting the text within Links2 which sends the text to the primary clipboard, and the middle mouse button releases the text into the destination. The issue with copy/paste externally from Links2 seems to be due an issue with the primary clipboard and Links2 not recognizing the secondary clipboard -- or whatever the correct term is.
If I recall correctly, once you login successfully a loading page will appear informing a successful login and a "redirection in progress" message. An option to click a hyperlink should appear if the automatic redirection does not work. If the link appears, click it because it should take you to the main Bodhi forum page. Once there, refresh Links2. If there is no link after successfully logging in, then manually modify the link using the Links2 shortcut which is -- if I recall correctly, "g" -- so that the browser directs you to the "bodhilinux.boards.net" main forum page. Upon entering this page, refresh again and you should have access to the board with your logged in account. Hopefully this helps.
It seems the login field for this forum likely uses PHP which is a serverside scripting language (unlike javascript which is a broswer-side scripting language), and since Links2 by default accepts cookies, and cookies are what PHP uses to record login sessions, there is no reason why Links2 cannot be login to this forum and post messages.
I often access this forum using Links2, however at the moment I am working on a project which has taken me away from the computer that has the Links2 Browser. I will check this forum again to see if you still have trouble logging in, and if so, I'll provide the precise steps I follow when accessing this board via the Links2 Browser.
An additional note: The "Dillo" Browser is another extremely lightweight browser that can be used to access this forum. However, keep in mind that the Dillo Browser has cookies deactivated by default. I've read through the Dillo manual and there is a section in there with instructions regarding how to activate cookies via a minor modification to a relevant configuration file. While the Dillo Browser can display some CSS (it seems to struggle with CSS3), it''s worth noting that Dillo Browser is similar to Links2 in that they both do not recognize javascript.
