Just thinking lately about bodhi 6 legacy. Keeping an ubuntu 18.04lts base is fine and I imagine will be able to release pretty much same moksha and apps as bodhi 6 64-bit on ubuntu 20 base.
But where it might seem not so updated is applications. Lot of software in ubuntu 18 repos isn't the latest version anymore. However, lots of software is available by PPA, etc, but that requires user figuring out what's out there and finding reliable sources.
So I wonder, if there is any thoughts about how to make Bodhi 6 Legacy still have access to newer software. Would it be appropriate to pre-include a bunch of PPA sources? If not, how hard would be be for bodhi repos to mirror ppas, or to self host some stuff so that when users sudo apt install install common software, they get current versions instead of 1-2 year old versions from ubuntu repo. I think some software has already released their final 32-bit version too and there will never be another update, just need to host that one final version forever.
The kinds of things I'm thinking about are typical software that many users install, the apps offered in bodhi appcenter and included app-pack version for example, and perhaps build tools. For software like libre office or vlc or gcc etc if you want the same version that bodhi 6 based on ubuntu 20 offers, then need to add ppas or something in addition to standard ubuntu 18.04 LTS repositories.
Just a thought... I could probably come up with a list of ppas/software that fit this category, if it would be a useful thing for bodhi 6 legacy....

I want to understand the development process so please correct me here.
During the early phase i.e. alpha beta etc. the OS is essentially a work in progress - is that correct? I am assuming "legacy" means the final release - is this right?
BL5.1 is based on 18.04 and accordingly uses the 18.04 repository - pretty sure that is correct.
So the Devs in this case essentially said here is the BL6 pre-alpha based on 20.04 test it, play with it but for now use the use the 18.04 repository. But the final release of BL6 will use the 20.04 repositories - right?

I am assuming "legacy" means the final release - is this right? The BL Legacy ISO is the 32-bit version of Bodhi, which leans heavily towards the minimum spec PC's (ie non 64-bit technology) - As BL 5.1 Legacy stands it supports Non PAE processors such as Pentium/Celeron M (which are about 15+ years old now). So in this context Legacy means 32-bit version (I'm guessing "legacy" hardware?). All other variants of BL 5.1/6.0 will be based on 64-bit architecture. There's a more complete write on each distribution variant on the wiki

I still think it would be great to get the Bodhi 6.0 Legacy iso down to a 700MB CD by minimizing even more than 5.1, even at the expense of requiring network for full install. Although a fully functioning live boot is still important so I understand the importance of epiphany and realize its hard to decide what not to include, but it would help make it easier install for lotta legacy machines with optical drive. But I think maybe it would be cool to also have a "Legacy+ apppack" iso (recommend 1GB+ memory but still usable with 512mb). This Legacy+ could be like apppack for legacy with more recent versions of software, similar to what will be available for Bodhi 6 64-bit. This idea is this software would be available in bodhi repos for the regular legacy users too, for example here's some ideas of what I would suggest including, probably targeting a 2GB or less live ISO. GCC 10 (ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test) Libreoffice 7 (ppa:libreoffice/ppa) SMPlayer/SMTube 20.6 (ppa:rvm/smplayer) - smtube is better than browser on old hardware too GIMP 2.1 (ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/gimp) Supertux 0.62 (ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/supertux) mtpaint 3.5 (ppa:webupd8team/mtpaint)
also from normal ubuntu 18,04/bodhi5 repos already: Linux 4.19 or maybe even 5.4 kernel (less memory and faster floppy access and exfat support - but does it take away old pentium?)
palemoon & chromium-browser (ditch gnome-web)
evisum or some system monitor file roller or some integrated archive manager
neofetch (I just like this - maybe even submit some bodhi ascii art upstream and include it as default) all moksha modules & bodhi themes printer & bluetooth

I like that idea. Would take a bit of work and maintaining but I think it would definitely be worth it.
