Please leave out the thing in 6, which nags you to Update as soon as you get into the OS. We don't WANT to update every 2 secs, we'll do it when the next version of Bodhi is ready!

Oh, OK
It is a mintupdater. Uncheck it from startup application and reboot bodhi. Thats it.

Another solution . . . . You can click on the update manager icon (mintupdate) go into Edit>Preferences>Options and reset Auto-refresh. The default is to refresh the updates 10 min after you boot up - you can make that hours or even days up to 99 days if you want (99 days would be nuts though - say 7 days if it really bothers you). Then you can have it refresh at an interval of your choosing - the default is every 6 hours. Since I rarely shutdown my daily driver I set it to refresh once a day because I want the security updates and the bug fixes. Again make it as long as you feel comfortable with.
But if you don't want to be bothered you can go into Edit>Preferences>Automation and set it up to apply updates and even remove obsolete kernels and dependencies.
As for BL6 pre-alpha . . . . mintupdate is not available in the repositories, at least yet. I got it in my BL6 Moksha but it is from an "un-trusted source" so I am not recommending it although I know the Dev's reputation and work from his Mint Dev days and do trust him as a source.

The Update Manager i.e. mintupdate is not installed in BL5.1 by default - you either have to install it from Synaptic or with the command sudo apt install mintupdate.
Again - adjust the refresh interval in Edit>Preferences>Options to something you find more suitable or remove mintupdate all together
In synaptic mark it for complete removal Or from the terminal sudo apt purge mintupdate
