With programs like No Machine and Real VNC I find that the eSudo box comes up when the correct box would be "Authenticate." So this makes authentication impossible from the GUI. With Real VNC I was able to find terminal commands to make things work (basically want to shut down all services and then restart them as desired). But I have not been able to find terminal commands to do a total shutdown, restart with No Machine. This matters because I need to turn this server off before making online purchases. Again, when I try to use No Machine GUI it just freezes, hangs... (because eSudo comes up instead of Authenticate). Is this some kind of bug? The proper boxes come up with Lubuntu "Groovy Gorilla." But I like Bodhi much better than Lubuntu so thought I would mention the issue here.

Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS - is that what you mean? I can't remember which iso I downloaded but I update everything...
Edit - I'm pretty sure it is "Standard" because I originally was using on older PC. Now using with Intel i3 so maybe HWE would fix this?

That would be Bodhi linux 5.0 or 5.1.
Is pkexec working? Is the system fully updated?

If you are using Bodhi Linux Standard you can upgrade to the HWE version (updates the kernel / you will also receive future kernel updates) you can achieve this by running these commands from terminology. sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-18.04 xserver-xorg-hwe-18.04

If the below command works the pkexec works as expected: pkexec env DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY=$XAUTHORITY leafpad If not I suspect that is the source of your issue.
