Hi there
I've the latest Bodhi on old Acer laptop, works great, but when i tried to add an old Brother b/w laser printer, it just hangs forever and doesn't seem to do anything. Bodhi-printing sees the printer ok, but when i click it and click 'next', it just hangs... Then i tried through localhost:631, but that didn't work either, it didn't offer the dialog where you could enter the username and the password.
I checked cups.service, it's active. It seems that the Brother driver is there also, because bodhi-printing recognizes the printer, it just can't add it properly.
I don't know what to try next.
The laptop is 2009 Acer Aspire and the printer is Brother HL-2030. Yeah, old stuff, but they both work with Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Peppermint etc.

I had to install drivers from the Brother website to get the printer working, but that broke the packages and updating the system doesn't work anymore. What a joy...

Proprietary drivers are no fun Yep, it was the last resort. I'm confused about this, because before that i finally got the printer installed through localhost:631, but it didn't print anything.

Was it this driver you tried? The deb. Edit- if you’re doing this on a fresh install, I’d be tempted to reinstall and start again if packages and stuff are broken.

Sorry, I fixed that link, but here is the driver I would try. this link worksEdit - install it manually. Google or duck duck go can help. I wouldn’t bother with installers.

Thanks, but had to move on. There's another printer that has to work in the laptop also, so... Not my laptop, too much hassle to fix things remotely with Teamviewer. Bodhi is great though, i have it on my ThinkPad and it works like a charm.

On the topic of printing... cheap printers that work with Bodhi, inkjet or laser, what's the easiest "Go to" brand?
