What does it take to use a printer via the printer support program.
Thanks
Or the cheap Canon TS200 series was a mistake. When you open printers, can change settings. Test page does nothing and nothing shown in the queue for activity.

Forgot about the error that showed, deleted printer and tried again, so that I could share the error.
CUPS server error There was an error during the CUPS operation: 'client-error-document-format-not-supported'.

Not going to worry about it. Going to use my old computer with WinXP on it.
Last resort for my Bodhi machine is buying another printer, same one my parents use, works with Bodhi.

Even though it showed being there, there was absolutely nothing going to the printer, and also no indication there was a job for printing.

Even though it showed being there, there was absolutely nothing going to the printer, and also no indication there was a job for printing. bit of a long shot, but does your printer "emulate" any other printers (like HP Laser Jet 4 or similar)? You might need to search around the web / manuals for that. If it does, then it might be possible to install the emulated printer driver rather than printer specific driver you've been wresting with. I've also found this website that has a linux/debian driver for the TS200. The installation looks to be as described below. No guarantees, but might be worth a try? 1. download debian driver (to ~/Downloads) 2. unpack the tar file (cd ~/Downloads && tar xvzf cnijfilter2-5.50-1-deb.tar.gz) 3. install the deb file (selecting either i386/amd64 as needed): sudo apt install ~/Downloads/cnijfilter2-5.50-1-deb/packages/cnijfilter2_5.50-1_amd64.deb best of luck!

Well, fidoedidoe, while I'll appreciate the help, very much so, just not worth it really.
By the way, haven't tried what you posted in above post, just lazy to try it, more or less given up.
I'm good for now with using my older computer to print, it does work. I will get another printer someday, just cannot afford one now.

Surely hope my post above didn't sound rude in anyway, not my intentions. Always had trouble wording certain things.

There are two methods outlined ( Printer Support & CUPS) This morning I installed hp drivers on BL following the wiki content. Then I installed hplip-gui with Synaptic. My scanner/printer was fully recognized. I don't make any advertising but if you are looking for a new printer, HP models work fine on Linux distributions because of adequate drivers.

Thought to myself, why not.
But...

Thank you so much for trying the suggestion...it appears there's an issue with the instruction I originally provided (sorry). The command to install (based on the information you've provided) should be: sudo apt install ~/Downloads/cnijfilter2-5.50-1-deb/packages/cnijfilter2_5.50-1_amd64.deb
Give that a go and see whether the installation completes - after that, I'm assuming (?) you'll have the specific printer available in the list of CUPS printer drivers (but i could be wrong) EDIT I installed the driver on my Test virtual Machine and can confirm the driver for the TS200 is available in CUPS. Manufacturer " Canon", Driver is named: Canon TS200 Series Ver.5.50 (en,de,fr,zh,ja) Screenshot: imgur.com/gallery/zGbetJa

Installed, can print the self test page, and PDF files, no text files (see message bottom of page regarding 2114).
Had to change directory, deal with not being able to use cnijfilter2-5.50-1-deb for some reason.

Hey wimc Well done for getting driver installed, don't forget to delete the unzip folders in Downloads and Pictures Not having the printer, I'd suggest looking at the article link below for resolve. My understanding is it's suggesting either the detected paper in the paper tray/feeder isn't matching the paper size the driver wants to print too. The article speculates you can override this through button pushes on printer. I'd also check what the default paper size is in the printer driver configuration .. making sure it matches the paper you have in the tray/feeder (configured in CUPS). Also check paper size when printing from an app is matching paper in printer (ie this overrides the printer default page size). support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART172436&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1568675553529

Thanks for the help fidoedidoe. Very much appreciated. At least its semi-working, its so close. Just need to tweak somethings in order to fully work.
