Bodhi 6.0 pre-alpha release

Maybe explaining what app pack is will make this question less important...

The only difference between bodhi standard and bodhi apppack is a list of additional applications are installed.  They are the same versions as from ubuntu or bodhi repositories, and should already work with bodhi whether preinstalled or installed by user after install.   So to convert standard to apppack, it could be done with something like:


sudo apt update;sudo apt install qalculate geany steam gimp blender libreoffice firefox filezilla hexchat audacious vlc openshot evince timeshift gdebi gparted bodhi-theme-pack bodhi-printing blueman thunar-archive-plugin
I might be missing something or that may not be exact packages used in final apppack, but I suspect it's close. 




And if you already know you don't need something, like an advanced 3D modeling tool (blender), or advanced image editor (gimp) etc you can skip those to save some space and time, as those are pretty big apps, and stick with ephoto and libreffice draw. Or skip libreoffice altogether and go light, maybe install abiword gnumeric and mtpaint, or maybe just the libreoffice writer and calc but no the whole suite, etc.  Standard gives you more options to do what you want (but that of course assumes you already know what you want, hence the apppack collection for those who want apps but dunno what apps!)

When the apppack iso is prepared, all those apps are preinstalled, so it makes the live environment far more usable.  But odds are, unless you're installing an iso released within the past few days, many packages will have had minor updates and new versions will be downloaded on your first update anyway, so you're in essence taking more overall download time, because you downloaded the bigger iso that had all the old versions included, installed all those, then download and install new versions on your first update.

An official beta for bodhi standard should be public shortly, but I suspect not an apppack.  Those apps can be tested anytime during beta to make sure no issues, but at time of making the final apppack iso the latest versions from repo will be used anyway, so the versions at the time of beta release are not so important... as long as current repository versions are working... if you find an app that doesnt work right while testing beta, let bodhi team know and they'll do what they can to resolve, so by the time final release and apppack are released, for sure everything works well together.

Once you're familiar with bodhi, you may decide you like the minimalist approach, start with bodhi standard, and only install apps you actually use.  When I was new and didn't know which of the appcenter apps to install for a particular task (i.e. which pdf viewer, which irc client, etc) I just chose the one from the apppack list since I assumed if it was in apppack, must work well with bodhi...
