which version (number) of bodhi are you using? can you provide the full terminal output after you run sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade ?

what is the update manager that you are using called? it's whatever came bundled in with bodhi apppack, the default one, even the flathub I installed was having trouble installing software unless I started it in sudo due to a lack of permissions, I think something went amiss and is not letting authenticate with my password inorder to grant permission TO install the updates

can you check and see in settings -> apps -> startup applications -> system tab if policykit authentication agent has been added? it should have a green dot (instead of black) to the right if it has been.

AH! thank you, I suppose bodhi app pack does not load that up by default, I was able to get it updated via apt-update then upgrade, but this should fix this, this should also fix the issue with flat hub not prompting me to authenticate with my password thus not getting permission to install apps without being run through sudo.
Update: Flathub works, therefore the updater SHOULD work next update cycle.
False alarm, turns out I had the sudo terminal still open >_<, it's still telling me it cannot install due to lack of permissions.
Update: it works now, just needed to reboot the laptop to get the polykit authentication to work.
