Hello all, I have played around with putting various distros on bootable USB drives. Unfortunately, some of the USB drives have crapped out. I know that Windows has a scan and fix utility for USB drives. Sometimes running "diskpart" from the Windows command line fixes the drives. But has anyone used any paid software programs for drive repair? Some of them will also recover data on the drives. Thank you.

You can recreate the partition table with gparted, that often fixes em. (Device Menu --> Create Partition Table)

Microsoft Windows holds the USB storages database in its registry: HKLM\System\MountedDevices. It breaks sometimes and USB storage stops recognize. To clean this database you have enter the command (with Administrator permissions):
> mountvol /r Attach the USB storage again and it will be recognized. You can format it in the usual way.
