I’ve noticed recently that a few new members have mentioned come from using mint or mate on either one of their machines or their main machine. This made me wonder what other distros our community used on a machine of theirs before Bodhi.
Then I thought I should ask them, and do a poll.
Edit - I can’t be bothered to edit the poll, I’m posting from my phone, so imagine Windows is in the poll and expand. Eg Win95, Windows 2000 millennium edition, and other greats. And, I wish I’d thought this the poll through before I posted it, our cousin in the free world BSD and others.

Around the Windows 7 era is where I felt the Windows fatigue. I initially began with regular Ubuntu release at that time but really disliked the sluggish desktop environment. After trying Xubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, Lubuntu and Linux Mint, I had decided on Lubuntu despite some gripes with setting it up and performing certain tasks on it, it still vastly outperformed Windows in what I needed. Linux Mint was the worst of the 4 I just mentioned, considering almost nothing worked out of the box and wasn't worth the multiple headaches required to *maybe* get everything working okay.
Lubuntu was my rock until recently with the introduction of unnecessary gloss and updates that was not wanted or helpful, and instead contributes to system performance issues. I think the reason you're seeing a lot of people fleeing systems like Linux Mint is because of this. It seems like the longer these efficient, well oiled Linux distributions are around, the more likely they are to get too big and bloated to the point that they become slow and problematic and completely lose what made them so great to begin with.
On that note I hope that Bodhi remains crazy efficient and stable as it is right now 'cause I will be deeply saddened if I have to switch. This system handles everything I throw at it like a champion. I can do things on here I thought was impossible due to hardware limitations.

What was bought to be my main computer, always went from Windows 8.x or 10 to Bodhi Linux.
After years and years of testing numerous distros, always preferred Bodhi Linux (its been 7 or more years now).

Bought my laptop used. It came with windoze 7 and I immediately nuked the hard drive and installed various distros to it including Bodhi.

I have gone through MANY distros (Arch based, Debian based and Ubuntu based ones) before I'll ended up with Bodhi, but the last one that was on my older computer that I'm using for Bodhi were Linux Mint Mate Edition. If I had not stumbled upon Bodhi I'd probably be running either BunsenLabs, Crunchbang++ or EndeavourOS on this computer. Heard about antiX aswell, but Bodhi spoke to me somehow, I liked the initial look and feel, plus I'll was curious about the Bodhi/Moksha DE.

The speed, simplicity and looks. I like simple (low powered) hardware and software. It's better for our planet I think.
I used Bodhi version 2.3 - 4.4. I switched to antiX because of systemd glitches, antiX is fast like Bodhi but has not the looks. systemd seems to be ok now. My wife uses Ubuntu Studio and systemd caused a lot of trouble, harddisk full because of big log files, crashes etc.. So I had it for a while with systemd based distros.
I started with slackware somewhere in 1995/96, tried Suse, RedHat and back to slackware/Vector Linux. I contributed to Vector for years, distributing CD roms outside of the US/Canada, writing documentation and solved small bugs. Vector is discontinued so I switched to Bodhi.

Re the poll question; years ago, before Bodhi, two of my machines were win10, and two were Win XP. In years gone by, I've also ran Windows 8.1, OS/2 2.1, and MS-DOS 6.2x, 5.0, and 3.3. I've also used Windows 7 on work or wife's computers, but coincidentally never on any of my own.

Windows announced that my laptop processor is not on the supported list for Windows 11 so I finally pushed myself to try Linux. I chose Pop_OS as the first distro. It didn't quite feel like 'my OS' but it was not Windows and I had worked some hours to get things running so I didn't think of alternatives until this spring. First I tried to install Garuda Linux simply because of the name but those few versions I tried did not work. One didn't start the installation and the second did not accept my password. So I got the idea of searching 'lightweight distro' and Bodhi stood out because of the name.
Now afer a few days of intense tweaking and experimenting I'm gradually reaching the flight altitude and I have a feeling that I'm staying with Bodhi as long as the project goes on. Using computer has never been this pleasant. Simple and unique experience with lovely minimal look. Thank you.

I have four desktops, a laptop that I run Puppy on and a crappy Chromebook. I use Bodhi on my everyday pc because it's basic, no freakin clutter. I still use Lubuntu and other Linux distros but this O/S is my main go to..Oh! Windows is pure crap.. {*-*}

I went full-blown Linux in 2015 when I decided I didn't like win 10. I settled on Linux Mint 17 with Cinnamon. It wasn't too bad at 450 mb. When v20 came out I noticed it was heavier, hitting 650 mb ram so I looked around and found Bodhi, which comes in at a very lean 200 mb (a bit more after a few minutes).
Hopefully Bodhi 7 will continue to be real light and be under 300 mb.

Can't participate in the poll, because Bodhi is on a second HDD (actually really an HDD) inside a Lenovo T420 still running the latest Mint Mate as main OS. I found Bodhi looking for a distro that comes with a focus Enlightenment, like there is KaOS and KDE Neon if you mainly want KDE. Since that laptop is also used by my wife, who's used to Mate, it won't be fully converted to Bodhi as long as she still needs to use at times.

I came here from Mint Xfce and Linux Lite. Linux Lite because it keeps trying to be as much like Microsoft Windows® as possible, and I freaking ΉΛƬΣ ︻╦̵̵̿╤─ ҉~• Windows! Why would I wish to replace a lousy OS with one just like it? Grrr.
Mint Xfce was and still is awesome on both desktop and laptop, and I'll likely go back to it if I can't figure out this confusing Moksha desktop. I love the lightness of Bodhi and it's very low demand on resources, but I find the interface not at all "intuitive."
