I have downloaded a Windows 95 retro theme and copied it /usr/share/themes but it does not appear in settings. I can copy downloaded icons to /user/share/icons and they do appear in settings however - why not themes? BTW I tried the import function but no joy with that either.
Background: I am moving to BL on my daily driver laptop a Lenovo T430 (i7 8Gb RAM). I enjoyed making it "look" like Windows 95 (theme, icons, windows boarder etc.). I could always install Xfce and get the Windows 95 looking desktop back that way but ideally I would like to keep Moksha. I obviously have the resources to support Xfce easily but Xfce will add a bunch of stuff I don't want like Thunar FM etc. which means I would have to go about cleaning out that stuff and hope I don't break anything in the process or just leave it. The whole reason I am sold on BL is because the Devs didn't decide for me what I needed installed.

OK, let me explain
Bodhi can consists on many themes. Firstly, Moksha dialogs, windows, menus are part of edj theme like arc_moksha_green or sunshine (your favorite). GTK applications uses GTK themes and yes, we have also icons which could be part also of edj theme or standalone theme you downloaded from Internet.
/usr/share/themes is a container for GTK, UNITY, CINNAMON etc themes. So if you placed your theme there, do not expect your moksha in that colors. No, only APPs will be colored. OK? Bad news is, in case of older themes some new apps like Geany will be in trouble. Weird non themed menus and options.
It was an explanation. Now please post here a link of that theme. I can look why not seen in settings. Have you looked at menu->settings_panel->application_theme->GTK apps?
Stefan
EDIT: I maintain one theme called Moksha_Seven with WIN7 look. If you are interesting. Of course, change the icons to suitable ones.

THX much for the fast reply. Yes Sunshine is indeed my favorite in terms of IMHO it is the most beautiful. Moksha_Seven is the theme I have set to now - GTK Applications is set to Windows 95 - Icons to Chicago 95 - Wallpaper is Windows 95 background. The Windows theme would, I think, give me the proper grey shelf and clock format (one like the Sunshine clock) and maybe some Windows 95 like shelf icon. Interesting thing is the network shelf icon is a Windows 95 icon. Probably a little too much to ask is the ability to change the start menu icon - I have a nice Windows 95 version. Theme Selector Advanced I believe I set the boarders, for now, to Arc but can easily change that to a more Windows 95 look - most of the advanced I don't understand and seem to have little affect but I will play with them some more. I think I can figure out how to change the desktop shortcut names and maybe get the trash up on the desktop Here is where I get themes I like to play with b00merang.weebly.com/windows-95.htmlHere are two screenshots 1.) what I have done so far 2.) Sunshine and Windows 95 in /usr/share/themes

Hmmm, OK, I had a look 1. Downloaded the Win95 theme and placed to /usr/share/themes. Yes, you are right, I can not see it. That's really weird. Anyway, I tried to put is to personal theme folder in ~/.themes. It works now OK. I do not know off hand why it does not work in that system folder. Sorry. 2. For showing the trash on your desktop install moksha-module-trash, load and place the trash gadget on the desktop. 3. Yes, of course it is very easy for me to add a Win logo instead of Bodhi one. But I will do this only privately if you want a lot. Send me a pm. I will send by email Anyway enjoy the Bodhi community Stefan

~/.themes Of course! I should have tried that - I am the only user so that will work - good catch. Also thx for the trash tip and I will take you up on 3. - sent you a PM
EDIT: cp -r from Downloads to ~/.themes (they are there) but still do not see them in Settings>Theme or Settings>All>Look>Theme

OK I know why the theme was not shown in /usr/share/themes. Sorta shame on me I did not solve it yesterday. Permissions are bad. When you ls -la unzipped folder the perms are: drwx------. So do this trick: sudo chmod 755 $(find /usr/share/themes/Windows-95-1.0 -type d) sudo chmod 644 $(find /usr/share/themes/Windows-95-1.0 -type f) Enjoy Stefan

Still no joy Stefan here is /usr/share/themes after executing both commands here is ~/.themes (ran both commands here as well) On both my BL systems only Moksha themes are available - on my Sunshine theme MacBook I don't care. If I can't get the Boomerang Windows 95 theme I will just play with Moksha7 and Win7 icons to get something retro. I am not really looking for an exact replica just close that is why I was looking for the Win95 button assuming the permissions would let me load the Win95 theme but so far not - so if you were able to load the Win95 theme could you tell how you did it? THX

Probably a little too much to ask is the ability to change the start menu icon I know I know - I asked this same question almost a year ago for B5. But I can't seem to find what the answer was.
By now I can do almost anything to customize Moksha but for the life of me I cannot find, remember or figure out how I changed the start menu icon.
