Hello all, I am running Bodhi from a bootable USB drive. So far, so good. I downloaded one of the free ebooks about Bodhi, but was unable to transfer it to my Amazon Fire tablet. My computer beeped when I connected the USB cable to it, but Bodhi did not recognize it as an external device. I made sure that the Fire's USB settings were set to data transfer, not charging. I must be doing something wrong here. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Hello Stefan, Thanks for the tip. I thought that I had the Fire tablet on USB transfer mode, but I will try it again.

Hi Stefan, I saw a post on itsfoss.com, where a fellow installed gMTP on Ubuntu, to connect his Kindle Fire with Ubuntu. Here is the link: itsfoss.com/how-to-connect-kindle-fire-hd-with-ubuntu-12-10/The command in the Terminal is: sudo apt install gmtp I tried it, but it still did not recognize my Fire tablet. On the page linked above, several people commented that it did not work for them, either,

Hi Stefan, gMTP recognized my Android phone, but the phone could not be mounted. I was unable to transfer Mr. Carter's ebook to my phone. But, I was able to transfer it to a USB drive, so I will plug the USB drive into my Windows computer, and transfer the file to my Fire tablet that way. Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, this situation seems to be a failing for Linux in general.

Something is weird. Fire Tablets run a fork of Android, and MTP with Bodhi should "just work" just like it does with other Android phones and tablets. My kids have had Fire HD8s for several years, no issues transferring photos/etc to bodhi.

Thank you, Enigma. I will keep trying. In the meantime, I was able to transfer files to the Fire tablet through drag and drop, using the Linux Mint OS (also installed on a bootable USB drive). In Mint, the Fire tablet was immediately recognized (once I set the USB settings to file transfer instead of charging). Then it was just a simple drag and drop, to place PDF files into the tablet. I guess sometimes things work better with the "beefier" distros. Thanks again.

It’ll be something that mint has installed by default that Bodhi hasn’t. The trick is finding out what and installing it

Mint is a super bloated distribution. People like it and they know why. Our distro is different. We do not provide a full bunch of stuff. We do not wanna force users to use stuff we think is best for us. But I understand this is a bit different situation. A driver which is apparently missing. As Hippytaff noticed, something needs to be installed. Still think it would be easy to find over the Internet. Stefan EDIT1: www.wikihow.com/Connect-the-Kindle-Fire-to-a-ComputerEDIT2: I can recommend Calibre application for managing epubs. There is also a file transfer. Let's hope calibre come with some generic drivers as dependecies. Give it a try!

Thank you, Stefan and hippytaff. That sounds interesting about Calibre - I had no idea that it worked on Linux, or would work with Bodhi. I just now saw this link: calibre-ebook.com/download_linuxI know on the Calibre Windows app, it will work with a program from "Apprentice Alf" to crack the DRM on Kindle books that the user already bought, so that they can be converted to non-DRMed PDFs or Mobi files. I have heard of Amazon closing accounts on people, and locking them out of their Kindle books. Not good. Bodhi works much better than Zorin Lite: I ran into several error messages trying to run sudo apt upgrade. Plus it would not let me install the Brave browser: it rejected the "sudo apt install curl" command. I installed Brave browser on Bodhi with mo issues. Aside from the issue with transferring files to a Fire tablet, I really like it. Thanks again. P.S.: I just installed Calibre with one command from the linked page. It worked perfectly.

sudo apt update && sudo apt install calibre

P.S.: I just installed Calibre with one command from the linked page. It worked perfectly. Does it mean, your file transfer works as well? Stefan

Thank you, Stefan and Hippytaff. Calibre (and the rest of Bodhi) still is not recognizing my Fire tablet. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
