whenever I've tried to click the "enable Wi Fi " box, the window closes and nothing happens, I've tried left and right click , to no avail
I can only use the internet with a wired connection...

I may not be the best help as I do not use Wi-Fi - but it appears you may physically have your Wi-Fi antenna turned off. It depends on the make/model of laptop, but sometimes they have a switch or slider that turns Wi-Fi off. It's fairly common an worth checking.
Please let us know what make/model your system is, that can help us find helpful details too.
Best,

You are damn right! I must have turned the wi-fi switch off, by mistake. i turned it on, and I immediately connected to the internet. PROBLEM SOLVED!
Thank you!

That's why we recommend using rfkill command as first aid for these kinds of troubles. It will reveal hard or soft block. Hard means a HW switch.
