Hello friends. I'm sure others here run uBlock or something similar. There are some pretty aggressive trackers running on bodhilinux.com. More, I only created my forum account today. I thought, "hey I didn't know about the forum." But, when trying to access the forums in the Tor browser, I remembered that I was never able to view them years ago. Tor is blocked on the forums. I find it extremely difficult to believe any of this is malicious on the part of Bodhi devs/admins. It's not really a problem for me; having never used the forums to this point I am sure I'll survive without them. But it raises a question, I think, for Bodhi users who are also concerned with privacy. Sure a VPN is a good first step but the surveillance capitalists (Alphabet Inc, the ostensible controller of the trackers on bodhilinux.com, chiefly among them) laugh in the face of the unwary consumer who installs a VPN and believes themselves protected. I don't know if this topic has come up in discussion among the admins at Bodhi or if this is some unintentional oversight. A lot of organizations for whom web development is not their primary focus rely on third party software, APIs, etc., and are often unaware of the insidious data parasitism at work behind the scenes. Remember: if you aren't paying for it, you are the product.

Proboards actually host the forums so it’s them that deal with all that stuff, but we do pay for it, so hopefully proboards hosting is the product. However not many people pay for FOSS stuff like Bodhi or the many other distros or apps that are available, so maybe it’s not always the case that if you’re not paying you are the product. I say not many, because few people donate. I think the FOSS world might be the last place where not paying is just the way it is for all the right reasons.

After talking to the team, it seems these trackers are harmless. One is a google tracker, another is Twitter, the other is added by jetpack wordpress plug-in. Nothing at all nefarious. jetpack.com/about/
