Question, last 2 kernel up grades went badly, the first broke the system, no way to restore/rescue the data on the HD total reinstall. 2nd kernel up grade same deal I tried the rescue disk didn't give any indication it was repaired so I shut it down/ turned off the pc the rebooted and my system came back up ! No more kernel up=grade until you tell me how to safely up-grade. Thanks, Martini

Hello and welcome, martini , I'm not sure if you came across this: www.bodhilinux.com/w/working-with-kernels/That may be helpful. I don't personally change my kernels so I'm not much help beyond this. I've never had a need. That said, plenty of users do change kernels, so if the link doesn't help get things sorted, someone will likely be able to assist. Good luck!

Sounds to me like you've got a failing hard drive, nothin to do with kernels.
Even if you do have a problem with a newly installed kernel, you can still boot to the previous one from grub advanced options.

It's possible that martini doesn't have a Grub menu display and it goes straight to booting the OS.
This might explain why a previous kernel that worked wasn't made available to boot from.

The Kernel comes as an update from the update manager, are these updates issued from BODHI or CONONICAL ? I like to keep my system current so maybe I will bypass these kernel upgrades

I run updates in my terminal which does not seem to pull kernel updates, so I have never run into this. Unless you really have a reason to play with kernels, I suspect you are fine staying put. That said, I'm sure someone that does play with kernels may have more useful feedback, etc..
Be well!

The kernel upgrades are from the Ubuntu repo. By default Bodhi doesn’t force upgrades and will only download and install security updates and things of that nature for the kernel version the iso comes with unless you install the HWE version of Bodhi, which, I believe, will pull in the latest kernel available from the Ubuntu repos. That’s my understanding at least.
